Lorraine Kelly panics as Strictly's Shirley Ballas suffers technical blunder

Lorraine Kelly was left looking a little flustered on Monday’s show, when Strictly star Shirley Ballas suffered a technical mishap live on-air.

The ballroom professional appeared on Lorraine via video chat, ringing in from her home to chat all things Strictly Come Dancing.

Unfortunately, as soon as she appeared on the screen, her mic stopped working, leading to an awkward exchange with host Lorraine.

The Scottish presenter asked: “Hello?”

Met by complete silence, she went on: “Oh no, can you hear me?”

Thankfully, Shirley, 60, managed to turn off her “mute” button, and her voice could be heard echoing throughout the studio.

Cracking up over the awkward introduction, Lorraine laughed: “That’s like when you have a Zoom call at home and you’re like ‘helloooo’.”

Once they put the technical mishap behind them, Shirley proceeded to discuss this year’s series of Strictly, saying: “Our baubles, bangles and beads brighten up everybody’s day.”

Known as the “Queen of Latin,” Shirley was appointed the head judge on Strictly back in 2017, replacing dance coach Len Goodman on the legendary panel.

Sunday’s episode saw screen star and comedienne Caroline Quentin get the axe, after she landed in the bottom two with EastEnders actress Maisie Smith.

Reflecting on the weekend’s performances, Shirley pipped Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing and comic Bill Bailey as the stand-out stars on the dance floor.

Shirley confided: “I think Jamie Laing this week just blew my socks off.”

Choreographed by his professional dance partner Karen Hauer, the reality star was challenged to dance street-style in time with the song Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now).

Awarded ten points by Shirley, Jamie topped the leaderboard with a whopping 29 points, followed in a close second by Maisie and Gorka Marquez’s 27 points.

Lorraine airs on weekdays at 9am on ITV.
