The Royle Family star Ricky Tomlinson's brother dies after coronavirus battle

The Royle Family legend Ricky Tomlinson has been felt heartbreak after his brother died from coronavirus.

Ricky, 81, has now released a video message to the nation begging people to take the pandemic seriously.

Speaking in a clip shared on the official Liverpool City Council Twitter, the actor said: “Hiya Ricky Tomlinson here, listen I sent away for one of these covid testing kits, I’ve done it and sent it back.

“Then I’m going to send for another one and repeat it again, do the test and send it back.

“It’s so important Covid is a killer. I know only too well, because one of my brothers has just died from Covid-19.

“Don’t let it happen to you, send away for your kit today and do what you’re supposed to do. Save your life and your loved ones around you.

Earlier this Autumn Liverpool was one of the most severally hit cities in the UK from the virus.

After being placed into strict tier 3 lockdown the city was picked to pilot a new testing scheme.

Starting on November 6, anyone who works or lives in Liverpool can get coronavirus test – even if they don’t have any symptoms.

On Thursday, official figures state that 144,548 people in the city have been tested so far as part of the scheme.

Many of the tests return results within an hour.

If successful it is hoped the mass testing scheme will be rolled out nationwide.

Meanwhile, multiple vaccines are in the final stages of testing before being made available to the public.

The UK government have already ordered millions of vaccines from a range of companies which they hope to be able to roll out before Christmas.

Currently the UK is in a nationwide second lockdown in a bid to flatten the spike of transmissions seen over the past month.

It is due to end to December 2 but fears are it will be extended.

Northern Ireland have just confirmed an intense two week lockdown will kick off in a weeks time.
