BBC's Children in Need raises whopping £39m in record-breaking year for show

BBC’s Children in Need has raised a massive sum of £39, 389, 048 in a record breaking year for the annual appeal.

The show was able to host a live audience again this year after having to go without one last year due to Covid restrictions.

The annual fundraising event aired to BBC One on Friday (November 19), and it featured another star-studded line-up as it celebrated over 40 years of fundraising.

It was hosted by talk show host Graham Norton as well as Ade Adepitan, Mel Giedroyc, Chris Ramsey and Alex Scott.

Graham and former Bake Off star Mel were delighted as they announced the total money raised at the end of the night.

Charlie Brooks’ EastEnders character Janine Butcher was matched up with Corrie’s resident Romeo, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).

EastEnders hard-man Danny Dyer transformed into a game show host as he presented a special version of The Wall – which made over £23,000 for the charity.

The event also saw Ed Sheeran take to the stage as well as Anne-Marie and One Direction star Niall Horan.

BBC weatherman Owain Wyn Evans made history for Children in Need after raising over £3 million pounds during his drumathon – the charity’s most successful 24 hour challenge to date.
