John Barrowman was on brink of self-destruction after sexual harassment claims

John Barrowman says sexual harassment claims left him on the verge of self-destructing.

The ITV star’s life was turned upside down by accusations of lewd behaviour earlier this year.

It sparked a wave of abuse that was so severe it left the former Dancing on Ice star struggling to cope.

In an emotional interview, John, 54, told the Daily Star Sunday: “I was taking it out on my husband, I was taking it out on my mum and dad and I was ready to take it out on myself. So I needed help.

“I started seeing a therapist. Doing that helped me greatly.”

John also had to take a break from social media over fears the abuse was damaging his mental state.

He added: “The people who were attacking me are the ones who say they worry about people’s mental health. But they didn’t give a s*** about my mental health. They were hypocritical.

“I came off social media. I haven’t read it since everything happened. I learned the best thing to do was keep off it and not to read it.”

Taking action and getting help has helped John survive one of his darkest times. He said: “People shouldn’t be embarrassed about seeking help or talking about it.”

John stands accused of flashing co-workers on the set of Doctor Who and Torchwood.

It came in the wake of an investigation into Noel Clarke, 45, that saw the actor accused of misconduct by 20 women.

John is furious he was linked to the scandal.

He said: “There is a person who has been accused by 20 women. That’s not me and I shouldn’t be thrown under the bus.

“What I did was a joke between friends. What we did as a group 15 years ago is our business. And no one has complained.”

Since John hit the headlines, he has been dropped from Dancing on Ice, inset.

But he is on a mission to keep his TV career and will return to screens with his show All Star Musicals next month.
