Kate Garraway says she felt 'guilty' for having one day away from husband Derek Draper

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway felt “guilty” after spending one day alone without her husband Derek Draper and their children.

The mother-of-two spent one day filming BBC’s Walking With Kate Garraway but it was also the first time she was away from her family since Derek was discharged from hospital with coronavirus.

Speaking openly to her fans on Instagram, Kate shared a post to promote the programme which aired on Wednesday evening.

Besides the promotional photo, Kate, 54, wrote a lengthy caption which read: “It was such a special day of filming – the first & only day I have spent on my own, without Derek & the kids since he came home from hospital.”

She continued: “I started off feeling very guilty at the indulgence of having the space, bathed in nature, to just ‘be’.

“And then as time went on as I walked & walked on my own gradually found a wonderful sense of perspective & energy renewal.

“There is something very calming about the rhythm of walking, to me. I think science says it’s to do with balancing both halves of the brain with the body or something!

“Whatever it is, when it is combined with nature in all its beauty & brutality, the force of life and, in its ‘season’, decay and damage I find it helps me get a new perspective on the ups and downs of my own life.

“I do hope you can join me on my slightly bonkers walk – just me talking to myself!!” She penned.

Rushing to the comment section, Kate’s fans shared their support and encouragement.

One follower wrote: “You are an inspiration to so many but remember to look after yourself too so you can keep inspiring others.”

Meanwhile, another penned: “Well needed self-care space Kate, no need to feel guilty. You have done extremely well coping with the circumstances.”

Last week, the GMB star gave an emotional update to her fans regarding Derek’s return to work.

She openly explained that she had to pack up her husband’s belongings from his therapy room but felt reluctant to do so as it could signify that he won’t return to work again.

Luckily for Kate, the building that Derek’s office was located in was put on sale which meant she had to pack his belongings regardless which she described as “fate”.
