Richard Madeley slams claims he's like Alan Partridge ahead of I'm A Celeb debut

I’m A Celebrity star Richard Madeley wants to prove that he is not a TV buffoon like Alan Partridge.

The presenter reckons he has been wrongly labelled a gaff-prone telly host who puts his foot in it over the years.

He now wants to dispel this myth and claims if he had been so bad, he would have been sacked by now.

The Good Morning Britain co-host, 65, said: “If the gaff thing was as frequent and as serious as is sometimes written about, I wouldn’t have a job. I would’ve been out of work a long time ago.

“I actually don’t think that I make gaffs nearly as often as people tease me about.

“I’m not going to get into a defensive crouch about it, but sometimes I read these things that I’m supposed to have said in the past, and I just didn’t say them. Some are true, but a lot of it’s made up.

“And they’re things which are now forever there on the internet and there’s nothing you can do about it.

“I’ve done thousands and thousands of hours of live television and I’ve never been sued for libel. So I think I’ll be alright.”

Madeley is among the ten celebrities including Emmerdale’s Danny Miller and Saturdays’ singer Frankie Bridge going into Gwrych Castle in Abergele ahead of the show’s launch on Sunday.

He will miss his wife Judy Finnigan, 73, the most as it will be their 35th wedding anniversary this weekend.

And this will be the longest time they have ever been apart.

Richard cannot wait to get stuck into Bushtucker Trials

The former daytime TV and chat show presenter cannot wait to get stuck into Bushtucker Trials as he claims it will “relieve the boredom” in the castle and give him a chance to “have fun” with hosts Ant and Dec.

But he will have no time for moaners and whingers.

He said: “Occasionally, from time to time, you see a “celebrity”who clearly doesn’t want to be there.

“And they get themselves into a terrible state and they start wailing and moaning about the hunger and the trial. And you think ‘Well, what the f*** did you go in for? Surely you understood what this programme was’.”

Madeley is not worried the Welsh castle might be haunted either as he and Judy once shared a bed with a ghost.

While staying in a hotel in Paris a few years ago, he woke in the middle of the night and saw his wife was sitting on the side of their bed.

But when he reached out to her, his hand touched the real Judy who was asleep next to him.

Madeley said: “It was such a shock to realize there was someone in the room with us.

“This thing then stood up and with ridiculous speed shot across the room and disappeared.

“I was really shaken up. Next morning Judy says to me ‘Oh my God, I had the most bizarre nightmare last night. I dreamt that a ghost walked over my grave’. It was really, really spooky.”
