BBC Breakfast star dishes on The Apprentice's Akeem Bundu-Kamara who is 'close pal'

BBC Breakfast presenter Gavin Ramjaun has offered a rare insight into The Apprentice 2022 candidate Akeem Bundu-Kamara – who he says is a “good pal” of his.

The Apprentice is set to return to BBC One on Thursday night (January 6) – and it will see Akeem compete against 15 other candidates in a bid to impress Lord Sugar.

The winner of this series will receive a whopping £250,000 investment into their business plan – so the stakes are rather high.

However, it seems like Akeem already has links to the world of showbiz – because he’s friends with BBC Breakfast presenter Gavin.

Gavin joined BBC News in 2009 – and has made regular appearances on Breakfast as a correspondent – as well as on BBC Sport, Sky Sports News and ITV’s This Morning.

Gavin spoke exclusively to Daily Star about Akeem ahead of the series – and what skills he has which might give him an advantage over his fellow contestants on the show.

Firstly, Gavin said that he became pals with Akeem through their shared goal of sport promoting better mental health.

He recalled: “Akeem’s a good pal of mine, I guess from our shared goal of how sport can change lives for the better in mental health.”

The BBC presenter added that he’s looking forward to watching him perform on the show – and that he’s “talented” and “driven”.

Most importantly for Gavin, he respects Akeem’s black-owned fitness brand.

Gavin went on: “He’s a talented, young, hardworking driven chap – and most importantly I respect his ethic as a black owned business operating in the fitness world.”

“Can’t wait to see how he does!”

Akeem owns a sustainable sports clothing company called Lockr Space.

Gavin and Akeem have actually collaborated on social media for Akeem’s business.

On Twitter, Akeem retweeted a snap of Gavin wearing a sustainable white t-shirt for one of Lockr Space’s associated brands – Colter & Roe.

Originally shared on Akeem’s Lockr Space account, the photo shows Gavin smiling as he does a press up.

Speaking on joining The Apprentice, Akeem said: “My growing up has made me who I am. I’m able to converse with everyone, but also able to show that financial, business side to myself.”

On the BBC website, a statement on Akeem reads: “Akeem considers himself a people person who loves being around others.

“However, as a self-confessed numbers guy, his analytical ability often causes him to think carefully about his every move, as he claims he will come in with a ‘calculated point of view.’

“Ready to provide the facts, Akeem says he’s got the ‘ambition, the drive and the experience working with strategy’ to stand him out from the crowd, and states he’s already on the ‘pathway to making it.'”
