Dancing on Ice's Bez films Hollyoaks cameo as bosses 'want to sign him up full time'

Happy Mondays star Bez could be set for a surprising soap career after playing a cameo character on Hollyoaks – sources have said.

The Dancing on Ice star, 57, is set to play a pub DJ on the Channel 4 soap next month.

Bez will appear play a DJ who gets booked by Tony Hutchinson to play at The Dog In The Pond’s club night, which will rival the Love Boat’s Ibiza event.

He apparently wowed show bosses so much with his on-screen charisma that they’re now keen on signing him up for a full time role on the soap.

The bosses were “surprised” by how good the musician was on camera – according to the source.

A source told the Sun: “Hollyoaks bosses were genuinely surprised by how good Bez is on camera.

“There is belief the role could be expanded, leading to Bez becoming a regular star.

“He plays himself, but given it’s in soapland, there’s no reason why he can’t continue seemingly living his own life in the village.

It comes after Bez tested positive for Covid just one day after his first performance on the ITV skating show.

He told Daily Star he was “gutted” to be missing out on training.

He said: “I’ve had a positive test. I’m gutted because I’m going to be missing training but I’m looking forward to skating on the show again for Week Three and I’ll be tuning at home and cheering on my mates who are skating this weekend”

An ITV spokesperson revealed: “We have stringent protocols in place to ensure the health and safety of all our contributors and staff which are routinely monitored and updated to reflect the current guidelines.”

Bez is partnered up with pro skater Angela Egan on the show, and became the first contestant to wear a crash helmet for his routines.

The pair scored a total of 12.5 points from the judges, the lowest score in Week One, but they made it through to Week Three.

Instead, it was Ria Hebden and her pro partner Łukasz Różycki who were booted from the show after landing in the skate off.

He is due to skate on the show next week (January 30th), providing he provides a negative test result and is fit to skate.

Speaking on joining the show, Bez said: “This is going to be a whole new experience. I might quite grow to like it”

He added: “How I got picked I don’t know, because I was absolutely awful at the audition.”

Daily Star have contacted representatives for Bez and Channel 4.
