Lily James 'hoped' Pamela Anderson would be involved in new series but never heard back

Lily James “hoped” to speak to Pamela Anderson before playing the blonde bombshell’s role in the new Hulu and Disney+ series Pam & Tommy but never heard back.

The 32-year-old explained to PORTER magazine how she reached out to the 54-year-old before starting filming in the hope to gain some feedback.

She said: “I was really hopeful that she would be involved. I wish it had been different.

“My sole intention was to take care of the story and to play Pamela authentically.”

Lily wanted feedback from the Playboy cover model as she revealed how hard she worked to get the role right.

The actresses added: “I read the books [Anderson] has written, I read her poetry, I can parrot along to all her interviews.

“I love that about acting; you fit into a character, and you realise you’re not as different as you might have thought.

“You lean in to things in yourself, and discard parts of you that aren’t useful.”

Lily can be seen in costume snaps wearing Pamela’s iconic red Baywatch swimsuit looking just like her twin.

The actress explained that her makeup and costume took four hours every day to perfect.

She said: “Of course, there was the physical transformation. Slowly, our incredible team found a balance where I resembled Pamela but also felt like I could act through it.

“I’ve never done anything where I look very different from myself before and I’d really like to continue in this vein, because I felt there was something very freeing and liberating in it.”

Lily also wore a prosthetic bodysuit and “hated it” when she had to take her costume off at the end of the day.

The series follows Pamela and then-husband Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee after their infamous sex tape scandal.

Discussing the scandal Lily says “it provoked an internet and celebrity culture” which she believes is “out of hand” as there is “no such thing as privacy” anymore.

Lily hopes to “provoke a conversation” by playing the famous model.
