Michelle Heaton feared she would get addicted to painkillers after latest surgery

Michelle Heaton has admitted she worried about getting “addicted” to painkillers after her recent surgery.

The former Liberty X singer, who bravely spoke about her battle with alcoholism and drugs last year, underwent a mastectomy and reconstruction following a breast cancer scare almost ten years ago.

Last month, the TV personality underwent another op after her doctor worried her breast implants could leak or possibly rupture.

Michelle told OK! that before the surgery, she admitted that she did think about whether she would get addicted to the painkillers.

She said: “At one point I thought, ‘I’m an addict – I know that I’ve dealt with that and I’m stronger than ever. But hang on, I haven’t been addicted to painkillers yet.'”

She added: “I had to do a lot of work around myself and my growth to understand that I don’t want to have to take anything stronger than I’ve already got.

“These are things that other people wouldn’t have clocked going into an op like this.”

The confession comes after the mum-of-two took part in a stunning photoshoot that showcased her transformation after she finally ditched the booze and drugs following an intervention.

Michelle admitted that it was a comment made by an eagle-eyed troll that helped her identify an issue with her breast.

She said one comment that “really did make me pay attention” prompted her to see her doctor.

She told: “It said something like, ‘Look at her. If I were her I’d be more worried about her breast looking like it’s exploded.’

“It’s difficult as I always like to say I don’t read nasty comments. But for me, that wasn’t nasty, it was a saviour.”

Fearing her implant could be leaking or ruptured, Michelle – who shares children Faith, 10, and AJ, seven, with husband Hugh Hanley – visited her doctor and later underwent further reconstruction surgery.

Michelle has been sober since she entered The Priory last April and says she works on maintaining it every day.

She said: “I do a gratitude list. The temptation hasn’t been there, as my obsession with drink and drugs has been removed.”
