Emmerdale issues warning before episode airs as baffled fans ridicule announcement

Emmerdale fans were issued an announcement before Friday’s episode (March 17) aired, warning them of “upsetting and distressing scenes”.

But viewers weren’t fazed by the announcement and instead headed to social media to mock the warning.

“Fake scenes of distress klaxon #Emmerdale,” wrote one fan.

Another shared: “Scenes of distress – is that because the first scene is Wendy? #Emmerdale”.

Referring back to Leyla’s kidnapping storyline, another viewer added: “Scenes of distress – some viewers will experience trying to work out why a shed in the middle of nowhere has electricity…”

Echoing this, someone else tweeted: “Scenes of distress? That was last night when they all survived! #Emmerdale”.

“Scenes of distress FFS it’s Emmerdale,” commented a fifth.

During the episode, Cathy put her plan into action to ditch Wendy and prevent her from chaperoning them to a gig that evening.

Shortly after, Cathy found herself standing on the edge of a bridge, waving a half-drunk bottle of alcohol around.

The teenager’s reckless behaviour began to scare April, Heath and Marshall, who watched on in horror as Cathy endangered her life.

Spotting Cathy on the bridge, Bob, Wendy, Liam and Manpreet rushed over, with Bob grabbing his daughter moments before she fell.

Manpreet then urged Bob to take Cathy to A&E and ask for the crisis team given she had just put her own life in danger.

Afterwards, Cathy spoke to a doctor and explained: “I didn’t mean to scare anyone. I was getting those horrible feelings again so I wanted to push them away before they got to me.”

The teenager revealed she had been feeling sad all the time and explained her heavy periods are not to blame, insisting: “It’s me. I’m the problem.

The doctor concluded that Cathy has depression and referred her to the adolescent mental health service, but revealed it could take months for her to be seen.

Viewers suggested that Cathy could be experiencing symptoms of bipolar disorder and shared their thoughts online.

“I hope it is Bipolar that #Emmerdale are covering with Cathy. Such an important and Heartbreaking story to cover especially for Cathy who is still so young,” wrote one viewer.

Another added: “I wonder if Cathy has Bipolar? That definitely looked like a manic episode of some sort”.

“Beginning to wonder if Cathy’s bipolar or something,” shared a third.

Echoing this, someone else commented: “There’s 2 GPs there surely one of them can tell she’s bipolar”.
