Giovanni Pernice reunites with Rose Ayling-Ellis as co-star praises 'relationship'

Viewers were overjoyed to see Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice back on their screens on Tuesday night (March 28) when the second instalment of their new BBC series aired.

The second leg of their trip around Sicily, the island in which Gio was born on, saw Anton and Giovanni head to Mount Etna, Europe’s highest and most active volcano.

But the most exciting moment of the night for many Strictly Come Dancing fans, was when Rose Ayling-Ellis made a surprise appearance.

Flying into Sicily especially to see Giovanni, Anton surprised his pal with Rose flying in on a helicopter.

Giovanni Pernice was completely taken aback when he saw Rose Ayling-Ellis

Completely unaware that his 2021 Strictly partner – who he won the series and lifted the Glitterball trophy with – was going to appear on the island he was born.

“I was very very happy with Anton’s surprise,” Gio said after he and Rose met with a big embrace.

He asked Rose: “What are you doing here?” while in a state of shock, which left the former EastEnders star explaining how she was his surprise.

Rose flew into Sicily in a hellicopter

She then joked that Anton had been calling her telling her that Gio was “really boring” on their trip abroad, which is why she flew out to Sicily, adding that she did so to “make it much better”.

Rose then went on to say that Gio was probably worried when he saw her as she tends to tease him and wind her up a lot.

Anton said that the pair had a ‘wonderful relationship’

Anton then spoke to the camera as Rose and Gio hugged, with him saying: “I thought this would be a lovely surprise for Giovanni, because they have a wonderful relationship, and a wonderful bond.”

Giovanni then gushed: “What a lovely lovely lovely thing to do,” looking completely touched by the sweet and unexpected surprise.

Rose and Gio won Strictly in 2021, with the duo being crowned and lifted the Glitterball trophy on December 18.

The pair have been close ever since, with their friendship standing the test of time.
