Scouse acting legend Stephen Graham has been in plenty of hard-hitting dramas, but now he is set to switch things up as he makes a cameo in British star Myles Smith’s new video
Stephen Graham has swapped the world of TV and film for music for his latest project. The beloved actor appears in the music video for Myles Smith latest single.
Adolescence star Stephen, 52, has been known for his harrowing acting roles throughout the years − including This is England, Boiling Point and Boardwalk Empire. But now, he has made a surprise cameo in Myles Smith’s latest track.
Titled Hold Me in the Dark, the song and its accompanying music video was released to the public on Monday (June 22). The clip was released to coincide with the release of Myles’ debut album − My Mess, My Heart, My Life.
In the video, Stephen plays the role of a parent struggling to deal with his child’s terminal illness diagnosis. He is seen struggling around the house trying to find ways to move on as he desperately spends every moment he can with his child.
In one harrowing moment, Stephen breaks down in the children’s hospital as he is told by a nurse that his child’s illness is terminal. However, back at home, Stephen has an epiphany and is seen carrying out experiments and drawings to try and keep his daughter’s memories alive.
As the clip goes on, Stephen uses various reflections from mirrors and glass chandeliers to construct a new tribute to his daughter. This involves smashing the mirrors and finding other ways to reflect the light − with the eventual rainbow reflection being shone into the hospital where his daughter has been staying.
As she appreciates the prism carried out for her, the child tragically passes away as a result of cancer. In the epilogue of the film, Stephen is seen sitting at the bed his daughter lay in after it has been made for the next patient as facts about cancer affecting children show up on the screen.
Speaking on the decision to include the Scouse star, BRIT Award winner Myles said: “‘Hold Me In The Dark’ is a song about loving someone through uncertainty and staying beside them when life feels impossibly heavy. The video explores that idea through the story of a father and daughter.
“What I love about the film is that, at first, you think you’re watching someone unravel. But as the story unfolds, you realise that every strange object and every seemingly irrational decision is actually an act of love.”
Myles added: “[Stephen]’s not losing his grip on reality − he’s trying to do something impossible for the person he loves most. At its heart, it’s a story about hope, sacrifice and the lengths we go to for the people we care about, even in the darkest moments, love can still give us something to hold on to.”
