Popstar Billie Eilish has opened up about her struggles with body image and revealed the shocking age she started dieting – admitting she wishes she was “kinder” to herself
Billie Eilish has opened up about her struggle with her body image admitting she started following fad diets at just 11-years-old and spent most of her life being unkind to herself for how she looked.
The popstar, 24, wowed at the premiere of her upcoming 3D concert film Hit Me Hard And Soft: The Tour, however admitted it’s been a long road to self-acceptance. Asked what advice she’d give her younger self, Billie told Sky: “My younger self I would say ‘take it easy on yourself’ or ‘don’t worry so much’ maybe, but I don’t know I guess it’s inevitable to worry so much.
“I guess I would say ‘be patient and be kind to yourself, and like stop going on diets at 11! That’s what I would say.”
Billie gushed that her fans help her accept herself as they continue to join her in fighting for equality.
She added: “I feel like the support of them has made it all so much easier because we’re all this little family, I feel like we all have the same beliefs.
“I feel very supported, obviously, by them, in every way but I think that’s one thing we’re all girls’ girls together and we’re all working and fighting for each other all the time.”
Billie described her relationship with her image as ‘toxic’ and admitted she would wear oversized clothes because it felt easier to be masculine.
The What Was I Made For singer told Elle magazine: “I’m not the first person who’s worn baggy clothes.
“I had a really, really toxic relationship with my body. I had a lot of eating issues.
“I remember putting on, like, a big shirt and the relief that I felt.
“At the same time, it was my love for hip-hop culture and wanting to be a man.
“This is the misogyny that we all have within us, which is that I didn’t want to be seen as feminine, and therefore weak. It’s not right. I’ve found a good way of not feeling like that.”
