Karma Chameleon singer Boy George said he thinks he is getting ‘ahead’ by using ChatGPT to come up with lyrics and he’s tired of writing tunes the old fashioned way

Singer Boy George has revealed he is writing his new songs with AI. The Karma Chameleon singer said he thinks he is getting ‘ahead’ by using ChatGPT to come up with lyrics.

The musician, who was the lead singer of Culture Club, said he is fed-up of writing songs ‘the old fashioned way’.

The 64-year-old, whose real name is George O’Dowd, told the Happy Place podcast that AI has helped him as an artist because he is ‘not working with anyone else’, so he doesn’t ‘have to worry for two seconds what they think’. Boy George said: “I have fantastic conversations with ChatGPT, and I’ll say, ‘oh, those lyrics are crap’.

“That’s not what I would say’. You know what I mean? But actually, you can train it. And my manager last night was saying, you know you’re talking to someone in China. I said, I couldn’t care less.”

The singer said he didn’t know whether you’re speaking to a person when you write to ChatGPT. Boy George continued: “Who cares? I said, it doesn’t matter. Because being a legacy artist, we just put out, I put out two Culture Club tracks, went to number one all over the world, which was great a couple of weeks ago.

“It doesn’t have the impact that it used to have, but we’re going on tour. These two particular songs, we’ve been playing for three years and I was like, I’m putting them out on my label.
