Brooklyn Beckham has faced online criticism after sharing a cottage pie cooking tutorial, with fans and commenters quick to point out his unconventional kitchen methods
It seems Brooklyn Beckham just can’t stay out of the kitchen – or out of the headlines. The 27-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham took to Instagram to share a homemade cottage pie tutorial, only to find himself on the receiving end of a wave of mockery from viewers who took issue with his cooking techniques. Despite making clear on numerous occasions that he considers himself a passionate home cook rather than a trained chef, that disclaimer has done little to shield him from scrutiny.
The video quickly drew a flood of criticism in the comments, as eagle-eyed followers zeroed in on what many considered a series of questionable choices in the kitchen.
Far from being put off by the backlash, Brooklyn appeared unfazed – though he did take a moment to address his critics head-on.
Instead of peeling his potatoes prior to boiling them, Brooklyn boiled them intact with their skins still attached, before trying to peel the blistering hot, softened potatoes afterwards. Commenters labelled it the “weirdest way to do potatoes”.
Observers also highlighted that his mashed potato layer noticeably subsided into the meat mixture below.
Critics indicated this happened because he neglected to let the minced beef cool down adequately before layering the mash on top.
Sharp-eyed home cooks additionally criticised his kitchen safety practices, advising him to position a damp tea towel underneath his chopping board to stop it from sliding while cutting.
In response to the criticism, Brooklyn hit back with a six-word reply, informing followers: “Im obviously not a professional chef.”
He continued by saying he ‘just loved cooking’ and shared his appreciation towards those who had posted supportive comments. Supportive followers praised Brooklyn’s culinary efforts, with one declaring the meal ‘looked tasty’, while another commended him: “Great knife skills chef!”
However, Brooklyn delivered a sharp response to a particularly harsh critic who targeted his wife Nicola Peltz.
The online user wrote: “Do you comment on everyone who is concerned about your wife and how sickly she looks? She puts herself out there. Feed her.”
Brooklyn swiftly defended his spouse, responding: “Don’t ever talk about my wife. She’s absolutely beautiful and you should never comment on a woman’s body. It’s disgraceful.”
This incident follows Brooklyn receiving further online criticism and ridicule earlier this month after resharing another cooking video where he seemed to collect seawater straight from the ocean to prepare pasta.
The budding chef initially posted the footage in July 2025 to showcase his hot sauce brand, Cloud23.
By reposting it a year afterwards on TikTok, he sparked the same health worries and mockery from detractors who challenged his culinary methods and intentions.
