One star who became a fan favourite on the Celebrity Traitors is now said to be ‘in talks’ for a new BBC role which would see him take on competitors in a surprise appearance
Celebrity Traitors star Joe Marler is reportedly in talks to appear on the BBC prime time hit Gladiators as he is set to make history.
Marler enjoyed a stellar career as a rugby player and jumped into TV roles with his stint on the Traitors – where he reached the final before being voted out by his fellow celebs. Now, it is reported that the star might join his next BBC show as the first ever celebrity Gladiator.
Other members of the cast, including fan favourite Fire AKA Olympian Montell Douglas, are already athletes, but Joe would be the first to jump from a TV career.
Apparently the broadcaster are planning Marler to make a surprise appearance. A source told The Sun: “Everyone is so excited about Joe’s surprise stint.
“It goes without saying he’s got the size, strength and muscle power to cut it as a Gladiator, but he’s also got the cheeky personality to match.”
Marler is now no stranger to the camera. After his appearance on Celebrity Traitors, he described the experience as “wild” and “a little bit overwhelming” in parts, but said he thoroughly enjoyed mixing with the likes of Sir Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie and Alan Carr.
He told Metro: “I remember turning to my wife once the final had been broadcast, and I was like, ‘Great, it’s done now – everyone’s just gonna concentrate on Christmas.’
“But being able to sit around the Round Table with people like Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie and Alan Carr … and the opportunity to tell Alan to shut up or Jonathan Ross to grow up – that was great fun.”
Adding to this, Marler was surprised at how popular the show was with viewers.
He said: “I knew the show would be popular, but I didn’t anticipate the public loving it as much as they did.”
Marler has never ruled out Gladiators – but he previously admitted he would never go near the Strictly ballroom for one key reason.
He said: “People have asked me, but I’m not doing Strictly because I can’t dance.”
