Peter Falk’s adopted daughter, Jacqueline Falk, has died at the age of 60 after she was reportedly found dead in her Los Angeles home on Monday as heartbroken fans have paid tribute
The daughter of Columbo actor Peter Falk has died after reportedly taking her own life. According to TMZ, the late Hollywood star’s adopted daughter, Jacqueline Falk, died in her Los Angeles home on Monday (April 27). According to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner, Jacqueline was found dead after hanging herself, aged 60 years old.
Peter, who passed away in 2011 aged 83, wed his first wife Alyce Mayo in 1960, and the couple adopted two daughters, Jacqueline and Catherine. The famous actor’s daughter follows the death of Martin Short’s daughter, who also took her own life just two months ago at the age of 42.
Jacqueline’s cause of death was officially ruled a suicide caused by hanging, according to the Mirror US. It currently is unknown whether Jacqueline left a note, as well as when and how funeral arrangements will be announced.
Peter shot to fame as Lieutenant Columbo in the beloved NBC/ABC television series Columbo, which aired from 1968 to 2003. His portrayal of the iconic character earned him 4 Emmys and a Golden Globe Award.
He was posthumously honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013. Following his death, his daughters said they would cherish their father’s “wisdom and humour.”
In 2009, after the actor received a diagnosis of Dementia and Alzheimer’s, Jacqueline’s sister, Catherine, launched legal action to secure conservatorship over his estate. She alleged that after his diagnosis, their stepmother − Shera Danese − was blocking her from seeing him.
The case resulted in Peter Falk’s law, implemented across numerous US states to stop legal guardians from cutting contact between unwell parents and their grown-up children. It was officially brought into force in 2016.
Heartfelt tributes flooded social media following reports of Jacqueline’s death, with X users offering their sympathies to her loved ones through messages such as, “Peter Falk’s daughter passing by suicide at 60 is a heavy loss for the family. Columbo’s iconic legacy now carries another quiet sadness behind it. Thoughts with those who knew her best. Rest in peace.”
Another admirer reflected, “Peter Falk’s daughter gone at 60 by suicide… Columbo’s legacy just got even heavier. Heartbreaking for the whole family.”
One posted, “Heartbreaking news, sending love to her family during this painful time.” Despite her father’s celebrity status, Jacqueline largely avoided public attention and maintained a fairly private existence before her devastating death.
