Anne Diamond has given an emotional update on Eamonn Holmes’ health at the TRIC Awards, revealing the GB News presenter is recovering and hopes to be back soon after missing the ceremony.
Anne Diamond has provided an update on Eamonn Holmes’ health after the presenter was unable to attend this year’s TRIC Awards. Speaking at the ceremony held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, she informed attendees of Eamonn’s absence.
She said: “There are a couple of people who would love to be here but can’t. Eamonn Holmes is not very well at the moment but he is doing well, he is recovering and we hope he will be back with us very soon.”
GB News scooped the Award for Best News Programme for the fourth year running. Last year, Eamonn accepted the award for Best News. However, as he proudly collected the award on behalf of GB News Breakfast, he faced heckling from some members of the crowd.
After using a wheelchair ramp to reach the stage, Eamonn expressed his thanks to the production team and viewers. Yet, the moment was tarnished by audible jeers from some attendees following the announcement of GB News Breakfast’s victory, reports the Mirror.
Despite the mixed response, the Northern Irishman delivered a heartfelt tribute to fellow presenter Charli Peters, who had earlier won the News Presenter award for his investigative work on grooming gangs in the UK.
He also paid homage to a colleague, but the end of his speech turned awkward after an audience member heckled for Eamonn to ‘get off’.
While it remained unclear whether Eamonn caught wind of the jeering, he wrapped up his speech on a positive note. He said: “For the thousands of people who voted, that is brilliant for us so we say thank you, thank you, thank you, to anyone who did bother to vote.”
His most recent absence comes as the GB News host, 66, continues to battle health struggles which have confined him to a wheelchair. In April, Eamonn endured a stroke, though he reassured supporters at the time that he was fine.
In 2016, Eamonn also went under the knife for both hips to ease chronic hip, leg, and back discomfort. But while recuperating, he tumbled down the stairs at his residence and broke his shoulder.
He subsequently contracted a debilitating viral infection. At the time, he blamed it on stress from a tax row with HMRC.
The infection triggered a severe rash on his face and threatened to compromise his vision. In May 2022, he experienced serious spinal complications that resulted in bladder and bowel difficulties and a nine-day hospital admission.
And in November 2022 he took a tumble at his Surrey residence, breaking his shoulder, which necessitated further surgery. He continues to investigate different treatments, including spinal injections and contemplating stem cell replacement therapy, in a persistent bid to restore mobility.
