ITV shake-up underway as major daytime star axed in favour of Alison Hammond

As ITV continues to face financial issues, fans of one popular game show will be hit hard after producers decided to end the show in favour of one of its most beloved homemade programmes

ITV have unveiled its plans to axe one of its most popular gameshows in favour of a new show with Alison Hammond.

Bosses at the channel have already been facing major financial cuts as viewers continue to turn away from traditional TV in favour of big streaming giants. Already, the channel has seen some of its daytime schedule be cut down, which has not affected its viewership, despite ITV once dominating the morning TV schedule.

Now, it has been confirmed that Celebrity Lingo is now set to be cut from the schedules in the latest cull to ITV’s programming. The show that is set to replace it is something a lot more family-friendly with Alison Hammond at the wheel.

Celebrity Lingo first launched back in 2022 with host Adil Ray, recognised for fronting Good Morning Britain, welcoming famous faces to battle it out against each other, according to the Mirror. Much like the game Wordle, the word-based quiz show features celebrities in pairs competing to crack 4 and 5-letter word puzzles to raise money for charity.

Last Tuesday (April 21), ITV audiences tuned in to the 10th episode of the second series as RuPaul’s Drag Race UK stars Tia Kofi and Danny Beard formed one team. They were facing off against former England goalkeeper David Seaman and his wife, Dancing on Ice professional Frankie Seaman.

However, this week the show won’t be broadcasting in its regular slot as a fresh series of Alison Hammond’s For the Love of Dogs will air at 7:30 pm instead. The This Morning presenter assumed the hosting duties of the show back in 2024, following the passing of Paul O’Grady.

The show follows Alison at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home as she assists rescue dogs in finding new families to join. Frequently throughout the series, viewers witness touching and emotional tales of dogs receiving medical care and behavioural guidance from the centre’s specialists to help the animals discover new, caring homes.

Speaking about the third series of For the Love of Dogs, Alison remarked: “I’m absolutely over the moon to be heading back to Battersea. My heart was truly stolen by the brave pups I met last time, and I’ve been itching to get back, roll up my sleeves, and help these gorgeous animals find the love they deserve.

“There’s a special kind of magic in seeing a dog’s tail wag for the first time after a tough start, and I can’t wait to share that with everyone at home.” The fresh six-part series pledges the same mixture of laughter, tears, and tail-wagging victories as Alison throws herself into the daily routine of the rescue centre.

Peter Laurie, Battersea Chief Executive, continued: “Battersea is excited to welcome another series of For the Love of Dogs to TV screens this Spring, where Alison will once again be sharing the heartfelt stories of some of the dogs that have come into our care recently. Guaranteed not to be a dry eye in the house, viewers will follow the journey of dogs of all ages, shape and size to find a home to call their own.”

Since the show started with Paul at the wheel, as many as 5 million viewers would tune in to see who he meets and how the home is doing. Since Alison took over however, this has dropped to around 2 million viewers per episode.
