Karen Hauer had been Strictly’s longest-serving professional dancer before she was shown the door of the BBC show − but now, she has already locked in a new project
Former Strictly Come Dancing star Karen Hauer has landed her first major job after being let go from the BBC show last month.
Karen, 44, was given the boot by BBC bosses as part of sweeping changes that were being brought to the show back in March. However, fans were left stunned at Karen’s exit, having served as a pro on the show for over decade.
Despite calls from fuming Strictly fans, the Beeb decided to stand by their decision, kicking Karen off the show. Now, the star is gearing up for life after Strictly, with a new dancing project that also touches on acting.
Karen has landed on her feet after being dropped by the BBC. She is now set to wow audiences again after she was revealed to be dusting off her dancing shoes in a new role for Stepping Out.
Taking to her Instagram, Karen revealed all: “This one feels really close to my heart. I am thrilled to be playing the role of Mavis in ‘Stepping Out’.
“A joyful, funny and deeply human story about finding confidence, connection and a little bit of magic through dance,” she continued. “I can’t wait to bring her to life and share it with you all.”
Many of Karen’s former Strictly pals rushed to the comments section to congratulate her on the huge career move. Luba Mushtuk, who was also shown the door, penned: “This is amazing!! So proud of you baby!”
Neil Jones also chimed in: “I can’t wait to see this. Meanwhile It Takes Two host Janette Manrara also gave her backing to Karen, writing: “Get those tap shoes on baby!”
‘Stepping Out’ is a play first debuted on the West End back in 1984. The show focuses on eight different characters who show up every week to a local tap dancing class in a dingy church hall in North London.
As the group starts to learn how to dance, they initially treat the classes as a means to socialise. But as the play goes on, the troupe go on to gain incredible confidence, which results in major updates for all involved.
Karen was just one of several professionals who left the show after sweeping changes were brought in by the BBC. Other big stars, including Nadiya Bychkova, Gorka Márquez and Michells Tsiakkis.
