Life on Coronation Street set exposed as ‘bored’ actors ‘sit around all day’

A Coronation Street star has opened up about what it is like behind-the-scenes of the iconic ITV series, giving an inside look at what goes on when the cameras have stopped rolling.

The Daily Star spoke with extra Laura Jackson, who spent some time on the Corrie set while filming a few episodes of the beloved soap. When asked about what a typical day on the Coronation Street set looks like, she told us: “I would pull up to the car park, which is next door to ITV studios, and walk down to the ITV set. It’s probably about a 5-minute walk. They sign you in at the desk and you go through to a waiting room.

“They check what you’re wearing, and then you sometimes get your makeup and hair done if necessary, on occasion, you’d be sent straight to wardrobe. The times vary, so you can be there at 7 o’clock some days, but not until 10 on others.”

Speaking to Heart Bingo Online, she continued: “Some days were up to five hours, but I also did days that were over eight hours. Sometimes you do have to sit and wait on set all day, which can be a bit boring, but if you’ve got paperwork or things to do, it helps.

“You also have to be quiet because microphones are very sensitive, so any sort of noise or conversation from the other rooms can be picked up on.”

Elsewhere in Corrie news, Boyzone legend Keith Duffy recently spoke to us about rumours that he is returning to the show. He joined the soap back in 2002 as the hunky Ciaran McCarthy, and a recent Easter Egg sparked speculation that he will be reprising the role.

Maggie Driscoll made a joke about Ben liking Boyzone as a kid, so we quizzed Keith about the line. In an exclusive chat, Keith said: “Somebody sent [the clip] to me, that’s the only reason I saw it! I did kind of think: ‘That’s a bit bizarre,’ because I was the barman in the Rovers, Pauline was in the Rovers as her character talking about Boyzone, there were so many coincidences at the same time.”

“I kind of wondered what was going on. Maybe it was the writers having fun? That’s what it probably was, the writers having fun. I’ve no plans to go back.”
