EXCLUSIVE: Love Island star Danica Taylor has revealed she’s launching a bold new pop career, admitting she stepped back from the spotlight to rediscover herself and her sound
Former Love Island star Danica Taylor has revealed she’s embarking on a surprising new career move – swapping reality TV for the music industry as she launches what she’s calling her “dirty pop” era.
The TV favourite, who found fame in the villa in 2022, says she has spent the last two years rediscovering herself and crafting a sound inspired by some of pop’s biggest female icons.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star at SHEIN’s VIP Ibiza event, the ITV beauty stole the show in SHEIN’s Neon Cut Out Backless One Piece. Here, Danica explained that fans can expect a bold new direction complete with high-energy performances and full choreography.
“It’s going really well – it’s a new era,” she said. “It’s dirty pop. I’m thinking Pussycat Dolls, Britney Spears, very ego pop. We need more diva-ish music and I’m bringing it back.”
The reality star added that she’s determined to put on a proper show whenever she performs.
“Full choreography – that’s what you’re going to get from me,” she said.
Danica admitted she deliberately took a step back from the spotlight to figure out exactly who she wanted to be as an artist.
“I’ve never stopped, but it took me two years to take a step back and think, ‘Who is Danica?’ and ‘What is my sound?’ Because, believe it or not, you do lose yourself in the limelight.”
She continued: “It’s not about being arrogant. It’s about knowing who you are and being the best version of you. And if I can make any of my girlypops think, ‘I’m that girl,’ then brilliant.”
While many fans know her from reality television, Danica insists performing has always been her first love.
“I’m just a born entertainer,” she said. “I just love the stage. I love making people laugh, dancing, singing – it’s just in me.”
Although she hasn’t ruled out appearing on TV again in the future, she believes now is the perfect time to focus on building a career on her own terms.
“TV is still in that world, but I always knew there might be an opportunity to go and do my own thing, and now I’m living the dream.”
The exciting new chapter begins with the release of CERTIFIED FREAK, the first single from Danica’s new “DIRTY POP” era.
After becoming a household name through reality television, she’s now hoping to carve out a place in the music industry with confidence, choreography and unapologetic pop star energy – proving there’s far more to her than life in the villa.
Danica was also spotted at Parklife this weekend as she sported SHEIN’s SUMWON WOMEN Slinky Plunge Dress With Open Back , Glow in the Dark Bracelets and Studded Baseball Cap.
The singer’s new track Certified Freak is out next week on June 29.
