Actor Martin Short’s daughter Katherine was found dead on 23 February and new details surrounding her death have emerged after her official death certificate was filed
New details surrounding the death of Martin Short’s daughter Katherine have come to light. The 42-year-old was found dead inside her home in Hollywood Hills after police arrived at the property, following a phone call about a potential suicide.
Katherine’s official death certificate from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has confirmed that the actor’s daughter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head while at home.
She was found behind a locked door and a note was found at the scene. The contents of the note have not been revealed and Katherine has reportedly since been cremated.

An LAPD spokesperson previously said: “The call was for a possible suicide. Officers made a death investigation report. It remains an active investigation.”
Her family confirmed the news of her death to TMZ: “It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time.”
“Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
She was the oldest of Martin’s three children, who he adopted with his late wife Nancy. They also shared Oliver, 39, and Henry, 36.
Nancy sadly died in 2010 after she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and in August 2024, Martin spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about her death. He said: “It was absolutely horrible, obviously, and as sad as anything. I will tell you what I said to my kids at the time: ‘I believe Mom has zoomed into our souls.”
