Love Island host Maya Jama has reportedly left Netflix bosses wanting more after her debut in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, with insiders claiming she’s already being eyed for another series
Maya Jama has reportedly left Netflix bosses so impressed with her acting debut in The Gentlemen that they’re already keen to bring her back for another series.
The Love Island host, 31, features in the upcoming second season of Guy Ritchie’s hit crime drama, with the newly released trailer giving fans a first glimpse of her mystery character. Dressed in tweeds and a flat cap, Maya is seen showing off her shooting skills during a countryside hunt after arriving by helicopter at the grand estate of the 13th Duke of Halstead, played by Theo James.
While her character’s name has yet to be revealed, insiders believe the role could be the start of a major acting career for the TV favourite. It comes as Maya prepares to wrap up her ninth series presenting Love Island, with the ITV2 final airing on Monday night.
A TV insider told The Sun: “The Gentlemen is set to be a huge stepping stone for Maya, who delivers a rather impressive performance despite not having a major part.
“But that could all be about to change as they eye her up for another series of the show, which is already one of Netflix’s biggest hits of recent years. The US market laps up shows like The Gentlemen as they’re both sexy and quintessentially British, rather like Maya herself.”
The first season of The Gentlemen landed on Netflix in 2024 and quickly became one of the streaming giant’s biggest successes. Alongside Theo James, the star-studded cast included Vinnie Jones, Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson, Kaya Scodelario and Daniel Ings.
The series centres around Halstead Manor, which was filmed at the historic Badminton House in Gloucestershire.
Season two is due to arrive on Netflix in September.
Meanwhile, speculation continues to mount over Maya’s future on Love Island, with viewers questioning whether this year’s series could be her last after several years at the helm.
The dating show has also helped introduce Maya to audiences in the US, with many American viewers praising the UK version over its stateside counterpart.
Despite her growing popularity, Maya has already turned down one major TV opportunity after passing on the chance to replace Emma Willis as host of The Voice UK.
Emma is understood to have stepped away from the ITV1 singing competition as she prepares to take over presenting duties on Strictly Come Dancing when the BBC One series returns later this year.
