Peep Show Super Hans star Matt King left paralysed after suffering a horrific stroke

Matt King took to his social media to confirm that he had suffered a rare stroke on his spinal cord over the weekend that has left him learning how to walk again

A star of hit Channel 4 comedy Peep Show has been left paralysed after suffering from a rare stroke.

Matt King, who played the iconic Super Hans in the 2000s comedy show, took to his social media on Thursday (April 30) that he had been left unable to walk after the incident. He was now learning how to walk again, after revealing the stroke targeted his spinal cord.

He went on to thank the staff at the Royal Sussex hospital for looking after him after he was rushed to hospital over the weekend. Fans have quickly rushed to share their messages of support and concern for him.

Taking to his Instagram, the actor wrote: “It’s true. I had a rare stroke of the spinal cord on Sunday.

“I was initially paralysed but was rushed to The Royal Sussex and the staff have been amazing. Can walk again, a bit.

“My legs were jelly, man. It didn’t feel f*****g brilliant. Thank you for all the love and kindness.”

Actor Matt, 58, starred alongside comedy giants David Mitchell and Robert Webb in the pioneering comedy show back in the 2000s. His character Super Hans was used as a way to inject some chaos and fun into the otherwise bland lives of Mark and Jez.

Super Hans had been a big fan favourite over the show’s initial run, helping Jeremy − played by Webb − to get into all kinds of mischief. From getting involved in drug smuggling to joining a cult, Super Hans had been at the centre of some of the show’s more bizarre episode plotlines.

But before he managed to bag the part, Matt lived a completely different life, having worked as a chef in Australia. It was there where he met comedian Jimeoin McKeown, which helped him get into the stand-up business.

He would eventually land the role of Super Hans, despite it being revealed in 2018 that producers initially wanted Danny Dyer to play the role. However, the role would springboard Matt into his acting career, landing other roles in hit shows Skins and Doctor Who.

In 2019, Matt shot back into the public eye after he appeared in the music video for Sam Fender’s track “Saturday”. There, he channelled his legendary character once again, as he was seen doing a strange interpretive dance routine.
