Strictly professional Dianne Buswell spoke candidly about the birth of her son Bowden and the “unbearable” pain she was in after undergoing an emergency C-section
Dianne Buswell has bravely revealed just how traumatic welcoming her son was. She revealed details of her harrowing birth ordeal, bursting into tears as she reflected on how hard it was for her.
The Strictly Come Dancing professional, 37, admitted she had to have an emergency caesarean for the arrival of her first child. Her pregnancy came while she was competing in last year’s edition of the BBC family favourite.
The professional dancer and her beau Joe Sugg first met when they were paired up on Strictly in 2018. Since then, the pair have gone from strength to strength, celebrating the birth of their baby boy Bowden in March this year.
But in a frank new chat, the Australian-born pro has broken her silence on the difficulties she faced that left her in excruciating pain. Dianne announced her pregnancy in 2025 and made history as the first professional dancer to participate in the BBC programme while expecting, according to the Express.
She danced on Series 23 alongside actor Stefan Dennis before pulling out after four weeks due to the actor suffering a calf injury. In a fresh interview, the Aussie favourite revealed she was left in horrific pain during her C-section.
Dianne confirmed that her entire career was put in jeopardy as a result of her pregnancy complications. She even feared she would not be able to dance again after welcoming her baby boy.
Dianne told the Oxydise podcast how she found herself unable to sit up properly following the operation. Speaking on the podcast, the star said: “I just burst into tears.
“The pain of having to sit up and trying to manoeuvre myself out of bed was just unbearable. My number one thing is how am I gonna recover and am I going to be able to dance again.”
The dancer confirmed she had given birth earlier this year and frequently posts updates on her social media platforms about her new life as a mum. When her baby arrived, she explained the thinking behind his name.
She penned: “Never felt a love like it Baby Bowden Mark Richard Sugg. 16/03/26.” The moniker Bowden stems from the village where Joe and his sister Zoe were raised.
