      Beyonce Urged to Respond to Subpoena Over 'Black Is King' Shelter Island Lawsuit

      Horse farm owner Mike Gaynor has launched legal action against local town council for allegedly allowing the’ Formation’ singer to shoot the video at a historical site in exchange of ‘substantial fee’.

      AceShowbiz – A horse farm owner on Shelter Island, New York has ordered lawmakers to force Beyonce Knowles to respond to a subpoena over a legal spat linked to her “Black Is King” visual album.
      Mike Gaynor launched legal action against local town council officials for allegedly allowing the superstar to shoot a video at Sylvester Manor, the former home of slave trader Nathaniel Sylvester in return for an alleged “substantial fee” – and allegedly without having to obtain the proper permits.
      Gaynor said in court docs, “I’m a very wealthy person, and I’m able to defend myself when I’m treated unfairly in my community. What we find so beautiful about Shelter Island is its historical nature, it’s a very simple place, untouched, but increasingly the fact is that if you’re wealthy on the island you’ll be treated one way, and it’s different for everyone else.

      “The farm was paid a substantial fee for the Filming and was required to sign non-disclosure agreements assuring its secrecy,” Gaynor’s documents continued to read.
      He claims he served Beyonce the subpoena at her East Hampton, New York mansion, and states: “It has now been over a month since Beyonce was served with the Subpoena, and she has not objected to any of the Subpoena… nor has she provided any justification for her failure to respond.”
      “This Court should compel Beyonce to comply… within 14 days issuing a warrant for a Sheriff to bring her to be deposed – or order her to pay costs, penalties, and damages.”
      Beyonce has yet to respond and bosses at Disney, the company which distributed Black is King on streaming site Disney+, insist they simply bought the finished project from Beyonce and had nothing to do with the filming locations she chose.

      The ‘Black Is King’ singer now becomes the most-nominated female artist in Grammy Awards history with a total of 79 nods including the nine mentions at the upcoming event.

      AceShowbiz – Beyonce Knowles is going for gold at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards in 2021 after leading all artists with nine nominations, including two for Record of the Year.
      “Black Parade” and “Savage Remix” with Megan Thee Stallion has landed Beyonce a double mention in the top category, while the former will also compete for Song of the Year, as well as Best R&B Performance and Song.
      “Black Is King”, the visual accompaniment to “The Lion King: The Gift” – the superstar’s soundtrack for her 2019 Disney remake, is shortlisted for Best Music Film, and “Brown Skin Girl” is up for Best Music Video.
      Additionally, the “Savage Remix” is nominated for Best Rap Performance and Song.
      The nine new nods make Beyonce the most-nominated female artist in Grammy Awards history with 79 over the course of her career, during which she has won 24.
      She is the second-most nominated artist of all time, now tied with Sir Paul McCartney, with the duo trailing Beyonce’s rap mogul husband Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, and Quincy Jones, who both boast 80 total nominations.
      Jay-Z’s career total, of which he has so far won 22, includes three mentions for 2021’s ceremony, all for helping to co-write “Black Parade” and “Savage Remix”.
      The 2021 Grammys look set to be a big night for the ladies with Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, Brittany Howard, Phoebe Bridgers, Fiona Apple, Jhene Aiko, and Billie Eilish among the multiple nominees, while there are also nods for late stars John Prine, Toots Hibbert, and Leonard Cohen.
      Comedian Trevor Noah will host the Grammy Awards on 31 January (21).

      AceShowbiz – Jennifer Lopez has created a buzz online following her performance at the 2020 American Music Awards, but not all for a good reason. The singer has been accused of stealing Beyonce Knowles’ concept for her set at the Sunday, November 22 show.
      The “Hustlers” star set the temperature rising with her steamy performance that night as she donned a semi-sheer catsuit while performing “Pa Ti”. Rocking short hair, she also showed sensual chair dance with several backup dancers during her solo set.
      J.Lo was later joined by Maluma to deliver “Lonely”. The 51-year-old actress seduced her collaborator as she hopped on top of a table and got hot and heavy with the 26-year-old Colombian-born singer.
      While many were mesmerized by J.Lo’s performance, Beyhive couldn’t help noticing that the Latina songstress/dancer’s outfit, look and dance were similar to their favorite artist’s at the 2014 Grammy Awards. They soon took Twitter to make the accusation against the “On the Floor” hitmaker.

      “jlo wanna be beyonce so bad, the thief striked once again,” one person posted on the blue bird app alongside a side-by-side picture of J.Lo at 2020 AMAs and Bey at 2014 Grammys. Another remarked, “jlo really had beyonce’s grammys 2014 look.”

      “Outfit, hair, dance… but one thing is sure: she CAN’T sing like queen Beyonce. Beyonce is the standard, so I’m not really surprised,” a third user slammed J.Lo. A fourth person insisted, “Before y’all talk about ‘Beyonce didn’t invent dancing on a chair’ let’s not act like J-Lo didn’t have the same outfit, same hairstyle & similar choreography.”
      Some others claimed J.Lo has had a long history of copying other artists’ concepts, with one commenting, “Jennifer has been stealing from black women for years.” Another cheeky user, meanwhile, described J.Lo and Maluma’s set as “beyonce and jay-z performing drunk in love #AMAs2020.”
      There were a few, however, who have come to J.Lo’s defense, with one saying, “She was inspired by King Bey,” instead of stealing from Bey. Another clapped back at the haters, “Everyone is always hating.”
      “JLO has been doing this chair dance for years even performs it in Vegas y’all are so problematic and bored.. they need to let y’all go outside more,” a J.Lo fan claimed. Another person blasted the critics for “reaching.”

      J.Lo herself has not responded to the allegations of her stealing Bey’s concept.

      According to The Sun, the “Diva” hitmaker planned a global trek for next year but, as the pandemic continues, she’s decided to scrap her plans and join the ranks of artists that will perform through livestreams.
      “Beyonce and her team are currently mapping out a plan to create a virtual live show to showcase her new music in 2021, now that she can’t tour because of Covid,” a source explained.
      “Following the success she had with (2016 album) Lemonade, and the Disney film Black Is King, she started writing and recording feel-good tracks inspired by new artists like Dua Lipa and The Shindellas,” they shared, adding, “She’s ready to dance again.”

      As she continues work on her new album, Beyonce also plans to promote it with “a virtual show that fans can watch at home,” according to the insider, who went on tell the publication the star “has made it clear she’s prepared to pull out all the stops to make it a real spectacle.”
      Stars including Billie Eilish, Kylie Minogue, Stormzy, Niall Horan, and Lewis Capaldi are among those who have resorted to putting on virtual concerts amid the Covid-19 crisis.
      Late last month, Beyonce caused frenzy among his loyal fans after saying she wanted to “slow down” from music following pandemic.
      “I truly cherish this time with my family, and my new goal is to slow down and shed stressful things from my life,” she told British Vogue. “I came into the music industry at 15 years old and grew up with the world watching, and I have put out projects nonstop.”
      “It’s been heavy and hectic,” she added. “I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on building my legacy and representing my culture the best way I know how. Now, I’ve decided to give myself permission to focus on my joy.”

      AceShowbiz – Beyhive are not ready for a world without the voice of Beyonce Knowles. The R&B star’s fans have gone into frenzy after reading her interview with British Vogue, in which she shared her goals to slow down from music and spend more time with her family.
      Thinking that the 39-year-old’s statement is a retirement announcement, people took to Twitter to express their grief over the news. “I’m not okay,” one person, who took the news hard, wrote, “Beyonce is my mother, if you gave birth to me, you can’t just retire like that.”
      Another shocked fan tweeted, “Beyonce is retiring…. I can’t breather, someone check up on me.” A third one went as far as announcing the end of her/his Beyonce fan account as saying, “Hi everyone, this will be my last tweet. I guess beyonce is going to retire. I will leave stan twitter and focus on my school I really have so much fun, I am grateful for everything and everyone. If you give me your ig we can stay in contact+.”
      Apparently having not read Bey’s new magazine interview, a confused fan asked, “why is everyone saying beyonce gonna retire stfu im gonna cry.” Another lamented how Beyonce’s supposed retirement has just made 2020 even more awful, “2020 done took Kobe (Kobe Bryant), gave us a global pandemic and these stupid mask, and now Beyonce wanna raise her kids and retire.”
      Not ready to hear such news, someone else wrote, “I know it’s very selfish of me but I don’t want Beyonce to retire anytime soon. She gives me so much happiness that I feel like she was takes a break I’ll just be kinda sad without her doing anything.”

      However, some others thought that those who think Beyonce is retiring were making false assumption. “Why some streets say, Beyonce is going to retire, when still there’s two Netflix deals in the pipeline?!” one person pointed out.
      “Y’all really think Beyonce would announce a retirement through a magazine lmaooooo and the fact y’all think Beyonce would retire is beyond me lmao,” another argued. Someone else thinks that Bey’s fans confused the Grammy-winning artist to another popular female star, “Not y’all thinking Beyonce gonna retire must got her confused with Rihanna.”

      In the said interview, Beyonce explained how she has “absolutely changed” amid the coronavirus pandemic. “I truly cherish this time with my family, and my new goal is to slow down and shed stressful things from my life,” the mother of three shared, explaining how works have consumed most of her time since she was a teen, “I came into the music industry at 15 years old and grew up with the world watching, and I have put out projects nonstop.”

      A furious local resident launches a lawsuit against the town council for allowing the ‘Formation’ singer to film her visual album ‘Black Is King’ at Sylvester Manor without applying for permission.

      AceShowbiz – The filming of Beyonce Knowles’ latest visual album “Black Is King” has resulted in a lawsuit. The R&B diva is accused of secretly shooting a video for the album at a historical site in Shelter Island without permit.
      This prompted a furious local resident to launch a lawsuit against the town council for allowing the former Destiny’s Child member to film at Sylvester Manor though neither the singer nor Disney applied for permission beforehand. The Shelter Island resident, Mike Gaynor, filed the lawsuit in New York Supreme Court last Wednesday, September 23. The lawsuit names the town, all of the town trustees and the Community Preservation Fund board’s member as defendants.
      In the court documents, Mike calls the former home of slave trader Nathaniel Sylvester a “sacred ground.” While he acknowledges that Nathaniel was “top a-hole and CEO of a worldwide slave-hunting and trading operation,” he insists the site demands respect because slaves were buried there.
      “I have official confirmation from the town clerk that no permits were obtained,” Mike tells Page Six, “I was deeply offended when I learned that The Manor took money from Disney to allow the film… on what is without argument on wholly sacred ground.”

      Mike, who donated $30,000 last year to the Manor, adds, “Please know that there are at least 200+ enslaved Africans and Manhasset Indians buried on their land and so that’s just not a place where you film a dance-off.”
      Mike believes that the council was aware that Bey was going to film without permits. “There’s no way they would have allowed her to turn up without knowing – I believe in fact the town did know about this and the town was signed up on an NDA so that the Manor and the town could make money,” he claims.
      It was reported in August that Manor staff helped choose filming locations for Bey, but she chose the site because of its important history. A source, meanwhile, says that Disney didn’t have a hand in selecting the filming locations because it bought it from an independent production company.
      Beyonce and Shelter Island Town Council have not responded to the lawsuit.
      Bey’s visual album “Black Is King” is based on the music of “The Lion King: The Gift”. It premiered globally on Disney+ on July 31.

      The 38-year-old singer’s visual album, which accompanies “The Lion King: The Gift”, dropped on Disney+ last Friday (31Jul20), with fans left stunned by the incredible ensembles Beyonce sports throughout the 85-minute film.
      “Black Is King” ‘s fashion curator Zerina Akers opened up about working on the project during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, telling the outlet that she had to come prepared with suitcases upon suitcases of clothes for the former Destiny’s Child star.
      Revealing Beyonce had 63 outfit changes, Akers said, “You have to be prepared. If she says, ‘I just want to shoot, I think it would be really nice in a T-shirt,’ I’m like, OK, 10 ball gowns, please. Just in case! Because more likely than not, we get there and it’s like, ‘Oh, it’s so beautiful, we need something more grand.’ And we kind of allow it to shape-shift.”
      Akers also had to ensure that she had lots of outfit choices for Beyonce’s eight-year-old daughter Blue, who also features in the visual album.
      “The cool thing about Blue that not a lot of people know is that a lot of times she chooses when she wants to (be involved),” she said. “She may see her mother doing a shot she thinks is cool. When she sees something in it, she may be like, ‘I want to do that, can I have a turn to do that?’ ”
      “She gets up and she just kind of does her thing. It all kind of comes to life.”

      In the closing moments of the project, a video plays of Beyonce sweetly dancing with three-year-old Sir as he smiles contently, alongside a message revealing that she’s dedicated her latest project to her only son.
      “Dedicated to my son, Sir Carter,” the message reads. “And to all our sons and daughters, the sun and the moon sow for you. You are the keys to the kingdom.”
      Sir’s twin sister Rumi also features in the film, and elder sister Blue, alongside an A-list line-up including Beyonce’s former Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell, and Lupita Nyong’o.
