Charlamagne Tha God Not Feeling Drake's 'Toosie Slide': 'It's Wack'

    Instagram

Calling it not organic, the ‘Breakfast Club’ co-host says in a new interview, ‘The s**t might still work but it just don’t seem organic. A lot of times with those TikTok dances, it’s just organic.’
    Apr 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Drake’s “Toosie Slide” may be a massive hit especially on TikTok, but Charlamagne Tha God appears not to be impressed by the song. During a recent interview in an episode of “The Brilliant Idiots” podcast, the “Breakfast Club” co-host made his feelings public.
“I think it’s wack and I think it’s beneath Drake,” he critiized the track, which debuted at No. 1 on the charts. “I think that when you’re the biggest artist in the world, when you’re the biggest rapper in the world, I don’t like to see you chasing trends.”
He went on saying, “It’s like, why be a surfer when you’re a f***ing wave? I just didn’t respect it.”
Calling it not organic, Charlamagne continued, “The s**t might still work but it just don’t seem organic. A lot of times with those TikTok dances, it’s just organic. It’s a song people like and somebody does something to it and it goes. It was like it felt too forced. Too corporate. Too industry.”
“I just feel like Drake has built himself up into such a way that he don’t have to do that s**t, man,” he said of Drizzy.

Apparently, some fans could relate to Charlamagne. “The way charlamagne feels abt drake’s toosie slide is how i feel. TO ME, it seems like he made a song for ppl to do on Tik-Tok. And dats cool,” one fan tweeted. “Same time, you’re drake. You dnt have to make songs like dat unless it’s on accident. Example: ‘in my feelings.’ ”
“He didn’t lie. Drake fans need to get over it,” another user wrote. “As a drake fan I can’t agree more with Charlamagne,” another comment read.
However, some others were against the criticism. “i’ve seen countless videos on the internet of children and entire families doing the dance and having a blast. ever stop and think maybe that’s all Drake wanted out of this one? what more can you ask for in a time like this,” a fan defended the Canadian star. One other added, “N***a charlamagne made a video mad at drake for making a good song saying he too industry lmao n***a the whole point is to make money.”

    Artist of the Week: Drake

His latest single, ‘Toosie Slide’, helps the Canadian hip-hop superstar become the first male artist to have three No. 1 debuts on the Billboard’s Hot 100.
    Apr 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Drake is undeniably one of the best rappers in the game now. From “Hotline Blings” to “God’s Plan”, every single that he puts out has always gone viral and consumed by the masses, resulting in them going platinum consistently. His latest single, “Toosie Slide”, is not an exception.
Released on April 3, the song became the fastest music trend to hit a billion views on TikTok and continues to dominate the platform, with over 3 billion views and counting. The record was previously held by Kylie Jenner with her famous “Rise and Shine” meme.
In addition to that, “Toosie Slide” is dominating the charts. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts, making him the first male artist to accomplish three No. 1 debuts on the charts. His other songs that debuted atop the weekly chart were “God’s Plan” and “Nice for What”. With that said, he has joined Mariah Carey as the only artists to have three No. 1 debuts on Hot 100.
Of course, Drake didn’t achieve all that success alone. Social media influencer Toosie took part in helping the song go viral by creating a dance challenge on TikTok. Talking about the influencer and the song during an Instagram Live, Drake said, “When I first made that song I was only talking about the moonwalk…But Toosie made a dance to that s**t I didn’t know it was gonna be a dance song like that… we’re just having fun getting warmed up.”
During the same Live session, Drake also mentioned that he was preparing for a new album. Even though details of the record remain scarce as of now, it will be a follow-up to his fifth studio album “Scorpion”. Receiving generally positive reviews from music critics, the double album was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2019 Grammy Awards.

Drake Able to Focus on New Album Thanks to Coronavirus Lockdown

    Instagram

The ‘God’s Plan’ hitmaker offers an update on his new material when joining hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs for his digital Dance-A-Thon to raise COVID-19 relief funds.
    Apr 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – The coronavirus lockdown has given Drake the opportunity to give his upcoming album 100 per cent of his attention for the first time in over a decade.
The “God’s Plan” hitmaker shared an update on his new material late on Sunday (April 12), when he joined hip-hop mogul Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs for his digital Dance-A-Thon to raise COVID-19 relief funds.
During the Instagram Live chat, Drake, whose club residency in Las Vegas was postponed due to the public health crisis, admitted the last time he was able to clear his schedule and really focus completely on a single project was back in 2009, when he was sidelined by a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
“I’m working on the album, I’ve been working on it for a while now,” he said.
“Another silver lining (to lockdown) is, when God does get you to sit down – I remember the last time I had to sit down was when I tore my ACL. And I made a great album out of that,” Drake continued of his hit 2010 debut, “Thank Me Later”.
“Obviously God has us all inside the house right now sitting down, so the amount of focus I’m able to put into this album is probably way different than it would’ve been if I had to go through the residency in Vegas…”
And the forced downtime has been great for his creativity.
Teasing the forthcoming material, Drake smiled, “Definitely, this is the most excited I’ve been about an album in a long time. A lot of little stuff has been trickling out but all the stuff on the album is fresh, it’s brand new. I’m excited. This is probably the most music I’ve ever been sitting on. I’m hyped.”
The new release will serve as the follow-up to 2018’s “Scorpion”, although Drake has continually served up musical treats for fans, including his latest track, “Toosie Slide”.
Diddy played the single during Drake’s appearance on his charity fundraiser, and they even performed the viral dance routine together live online.
Elsewhere in the chat, Diddy revealed Drake had made it onto his top five list of all-time great MCs.
“Two years ago, three years ago, I didn’t know,” he confessed. “It’s clear the work you put in, you’re in my official Top Five. For real. That’s right. Y’all heard it. Hits, hits, hits, hits, hits, hits!”

Flattered by the huge compliment, Drake replied, “Thank you. That means the world to me. There’s very few opinions that hold as much weight as yours…”

Drake Becomes First Male Artist to Score Three No.1 Debuts on Hot 100 Chart With 'Toosie Slide'

    WENN

Breaking his tie with Justin Bieber, the ‘God’s Plan’ hitmaker dethrones The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ on the Billboard countdown, and matches Mariah Carey’s milestone in the mid-to-late 1990s.
    Apr 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Drake has broken chart records in the U.S., becoming the only male artist to score three number one debuts.
The rapper’s “Toosie Slide” has entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number one, matching Mariah Carey’s milestone in the mid-to-late 1990s.
“Toosie Slide” is Drake’s seventh total Hot 100 chart-topper. It joins “God’s Plan” and “Nice for What”, which both debuted at number one in 2018.
It breaks a tie with Justin Bieber, who has two number one debuts to his name.
Britney Spears and Ariana Grande have also debuted two songs at the top of the Hot 100.
Drake’s run of number ones began in 2010 with “What’s My Name?” – the hit he recorded with Rihanna.
“Toosie Slide” success gives Drake his 50th week at the top of the Hot 100. Only Mariah Carey, Rihanna and The Beatles have spent more weeks at number one.
He’s now just one top 10 hit behind Madonna, who has 38, and extends his record run of Hot 100 hits to 209.
The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” drops to two on the new countdown, while Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” also falls a spot to three.
Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” and Future’s “Life Is Good”, featuring Drake, complete the new top five.
Meanwhile, Post Malone has moved to within a week of matching the record for the longest Hot 100 top 10 run as “Circles” drops from four to six.

If he spends another week in the top flight, he’ll match a record tie with himself – for “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)”, Maroon 5 (“Girls Like You”), and Ed Sheeran (“Shape of You”). Those three tracks all spent 33 weeks in the top 10.

The hitmaker released “When to Say When” and “Chicago Freestyle” in one video late on Saturday (February 29) night, featuring footage from Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects and Manhattan’s Diamond district in New York, and Drake’s hometown Toronto, Canada.
“When to Say When” sees the star reference the mother of his son Adonis, French artist Sophie Brussaux, by saying, “Baby mama fluke, but I love her for who she is.”
He also refers to his impressive success on the U.S. Billboard charts, adding, “Five hundred weeks, I fill the charts with my pain.”

Drake Slammed Over Michael Jackson Reference on New Song 'When to Say When'

    WENN/Instar/Danny Clifford

On the song, the Canadian rapper appears to make reference to music icon Michael Jackson and his Neverland home and that unsurprisingly doesn’t sit well with MJ’s fans.
    Mar 2, 2020
AceShowbiz – Drake excited fans when he released two new songs, “When to Say When” and “Chicago Freestyle”, on Sunday morning, March 1. On the former, the Canadian rapper appears to make reference to music icon Michael Jackson and his Neverland home and that unsurprisingly doesn’t sit well with MJ’s fans.
The song features the “In My Feelings” rapping about his accomplishments and how he goes back to his Canadian mansion to take a break over the past year. “Ayy, thirty-three years, I gave that to the game/ Thirty-three mill’, I save that for the ring/ Five hundred weeks, I fill the charts with my pain/ Five hundred mil and I fall back in the 6ix,” so Drizzy raps.
Later he adds, “Finally give you the n****s the space you need to exist/ Michael Jackson s**t/ but the palace is not for kids.” Drake is most likely referring to Michael’s famous home where the singer was accused of molesting Wade Robson and James Safechuck during their childhood.

“Drake coming for Michael Jackson? Oh he’s gonna get dragged ALL the way back to the Canadian border,” one fan commented on the lyrics. “Drake b***h go f**k yourself. You’re not worthy of mentioning Michael Jackson’s name let alone shade him in your ugly a** songs just for clicks. Stop using his name for clout, clown,” one other hotly tweeted.
“so Drake wants to drop Michael Jackson p*dophile jokes but spend money on a damn unreleased verse for his last album. that s**t is disrespectful af,” someone blasted Drizzy. Bringing up rumors of him grooming young artists like Millie Bobby Brown and Billie Eilish, one user wrote, “Drake really should’ve avoided that Michael Jackson line considering his own history with underage women.”
However, some others jumped to Drake’s defense quickly. “I didn’t take the Michael Jackson line as disrespect .. Clever fact… Drake walked that thin line tastefully and witty in my opinion,” a person shared. Meanwhile, someone else compared the situation to Nicki Minaj’s controversial Rosa Parks lyrics on “Yikes”.
