    Instagram

At the end of the Pokemon Day 25th anniversary virtual concert, the ‘I Like It’ hitmaker is unraveled to be taking part Katy Perry and Post Malone for ‘Pokemon 25: The Album’ special release.

    Mar 1, 2021
AceShowbiz – Latin superstar J Balvin is drawing inspiration from old TV shows and video games to create a new song to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pokemon.
He will join artists including Katy Perry and Post Malone on the special release, “Pokemon 25: The Album”, which will be made up of 14 original tracks, and Balvin is looking to the past to help him pen a tune to appeal to more than just gamers.
“We’re gonna come up with a crazy song. It’s going to catch everybody’s ear,” he said. “It’s easy to make a Pokemon song if you just want that fan base, but we’re not close-minded. We want everybody to vibe with Pokemon.”
The album news was revealed at the end of the Pokemon Day 25th anniversary virtual concert on Saturday, February 27, which was headlined by Post Malone.

The “Circles” hitmaker released a cover of Hootie & the Blowfish’s “Only Wanna Be With You” from the album and admitted the song was “super fun” to perform.
He told Rolling Stone magazine, “I’ve always been a fan of the band and Darius (Rucker, lead singer). This song is one of my favorites, and it was super fun to cover. The song was released 25 years ago, which also happens to be when Pokemon got its start.”
Perry, in the meantime, has not spilled any details about her partnership with the gaming franchise. “It is an honor to be chosen to help celebrate a franchise that has given me so much joy in the last 25 years, and to be able to watch it evolve in the ways it’s provided that kind of electric joy for the kids in my life and around the world,” she simply stated in January when her involvement was announced.

  • J Balvin and Bad Bunny Dominate 2020 Latin Grammy Nominations

Balvin and Bunny lead the 2020 nominees with thirteen and nine nods respectively, joining the likes of Rosalia, Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, and Karol G on the list.
    Sep 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – J Balvin and Bad Bunny lead the nominees at the 2020 Latin Grammy Awards with 13 and nine nominations.
Both stars are nominated twice in the prestigious Album of the Year category – for their solo LPs “Colores” and “YHLQMDLG”, respectively, along with the collaborative record “Oasis”.
Balvin will also compete against himself for Record of the Year for “Rojo” and “China”, also starring Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, Karol G, and Ozuna – who comes in third with eight nods.
The nominations show a clear shift from the 2019 prizegiving, which saw organisers criticised for sidelining reggaeton and Latin trap stars in favour of established acts making more traditional Spanish-language pop. Balvin skipped last year’s ceremony in protest.

In a statement, Latin Recording Academy President and CEO Gabriel Abaroa, Jr. said, “Over the last year, we continued engaging in discussions with our members to improve the awards process and actively encouraged diverse Latin music creators to join and participate.”
Anuel AA, singer Karol G who’s up for record of the year and song of the year with “Tusa”, her duet with Nicki Minaj, producers Sky and Tainy who work closely in the studio with Balvin and Bad Bunny, and reggaeton pioneer Daddy Yankee also land nominations.
Meanwhile, Rosalia, whose “El Mal Querer” was named album of the year at the 2019 Latin Grammys, has four nominations this time, including Urban Fusion Performance and Urban Song for her and Ozuna’s “Yo X Ti, Tu X Mi”.
Winners will be announced during a televised ceremony which will be “anchored” in Miami on 19 November (20), according to the Academy’s statement. Performances will take place from multiple cities around the world.

  • J Balvin Offers Augmented Reality Experience in Upcoming Livestream Concert

    Instagram

The Colombian musician plans a hi-tech virtual concert dubbed ‘Behind the Colores: The Live Experience’ in order to promote his new studio album amid the pandemic.
    Jun 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Colombian superstar J Balvin is set to take the livestream world by storm by creating a virtual special to showcase his new album “Colores”.
The singer released the album at the height of the coronavirus lockdown and he has spent weeks working with creatives to try and find a way to perform the tracks from his pad in Medellin without the show appearing too homemade – and now he’s ready to show fans what he has come up with.
“Behind the Colores: The Live Experience” will hit YouTube on June 20, 2020 and J Balvin can’t wait for devotees to check it out.
“I thought, ‘What can I do that will be different from what reality allows, and that you can only view this way through your cellphone or your laptop, but not in real life,’ ” he tells Billboard. “Simply doing a filmed live concert is never as exciting as the in-person experience. But, what about a concert that’s built to be seen on a screen? There you can really do something different… It’s about creating something that everyone will be talking about.”
The show will be an augmented reality experience, in which Balvin will perform live in a virtual space inside his home while directors in Los Angeles control the look of the broadcast.
“This is a completely different thing,” creative director and producer Antony Ginandjar says, revealing the concept took a month to put together.”

J Balvin Proposes Release Delay for 'Colores' to Fans

    WENN/Instar

Set to launch his brand new album on March 20, the ‘Mi Gente’ singer asks his devotees if he should postpone its release as people around the world deal with the ongoing spread of coronavirus.
    Mar 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Colombian star J Balvin has proposed postponing the upcoming release of his new album in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.
The “Mi Gente” singer is set to launch “Colores” next Friday (March 20), but he appears to be having second thoughts about sharing the project at a time when so many people are more concerned about the health and safety of themselves and their loved ones than the release of any new music.
Turning to fans for their input on Thursday night, Balvin posted a question in Spanish on social media, which roughly translates to, “My people, should we stop the release of ‘Colores’ on March 20th or should we go out and give colour in this grey moment?”

Many insisted he should stick to the release date, arguing that music brings joy and happiness during tough times – especially when people around the world are facing possible quarantine in a bid to halt the spread of the COVID-19 disease.
Label bosses at Universal Music are still currently preparing to drop the new material next week.
