'No Time to Die' Release Date Bumped Again to Fall

    Universal Pictures

The newest installment of the spy film franchise is among the latest movies which releases are postponed amid the continuously rising number of coronavirus cases.

    Jan 22, 2021
AceShowbiz – “No Time to Die” is facing yet another delay. After pushed back several times to April 2 of this year, the upcoming installment of the British spy film series has been postponed again for a fall release. MGM announced on Thursday, January 21 that the movie is going to hit theaters on October 8.
Billed as the last James Bond film featuring Daniel Craig as the 007 agent, the Cary Joji Fukunaga-directed flick was originally slated to arrive in April 2020 before the coronavirus outbreak hit the U.S. It was then postponed until November 12, 2020. However, in October 2020, the movie was pushed back again to April 2021 as it became apparent that theatrical markets, especially in the United States, would not see full demand.
“Those who have their eye on the long game understand that for a film like Bond, and many others, the prestige, exclusivity, and revenue generating potential of the movie theater is still undeniable and indeed still worth waiting for,” Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore, said of the several delays.

The latest delay was unforeseen though, as the number of coronavirus cases in the country continues to spike. On the same day MGM announced the new date for “No Time to Die”, other movies have also been postponed due to the circumstances.
They are “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway”, which is pushed back from January 15, 2021 to June 11, 2021, “Cinderella (2021)” which moves from February 5, 2021 to July 16, 2021, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” due out on November 11, 2021 after previously slated to arrive on June 11, 2021, and “Uncharted” which is postponed from October 8, 2021 to February 11, 2022.
While MGM and Sony, which hold the distribution rights for these above mentioned films, are still pushing for theatrical releases for their films, Warner Bros. has decided to bring all its 2021 slate to its streaming service.

Ben Whishaw Never Received Full Script of James Bond Movie 'No Time to Die'

    Sony Pictures

The ‘Paddington’ actor describes the making of the latest James Bond movie ‘a difficult journey’ partly because of the way director Cory Fukunaga works.

    Jan 1, 2021
AceShowbiz – Ben Whishaw found making the latest James Bond movie, “No Time to Die”, a “difficult journey.”
The 40-year-old actor reprised his role as Q in the latest James Bond movie – which is now due for release in April 2021, having been pushed back a year due to the coronavirus pandemic – but finds it difficult to talk about the film, largely because he never received a full script and because of the way director Cary Fukunaga works.
He said, “Partly because it was long ago. Although it wasn’t that long ago, it does feel like it. But also, we never did get the full script. I did my bits not in chronological order, so I find it hard (to talk about).”
“I’m not allowed to tell you what happens in the story, and even if I was I couldn’t, because of the way that it happened. But I can say that very late in the day I give him some technology that helps.”

Asked if he didn’t get a full script due to a fear of leaks, he said, “It’s partly the secrecy that always surrounds it, but on this one, to be honest, it was a difficult journey. Although it was part-intentional, the director works in quite an improvisational way and we had a very tight deadline. But as I say, they don’t tell us anything.”
The “Mary Poppins Returns” actor admitted he often feels uncomfortable on set because he’s so “afraid” of meeting new people and struggles to make small talk.
He said in a recent interview, “I get anxious that I’m really bad at small talk. And I’ve been doing a lot of hanging around on set, where I should be doing lots of small-talking. I’m just quite s**t at it. I don’t know what to talk to people about.”
“I get anxious about it, so now I just think, ‘I’ll sit here quietly and do my work,’ or I get overwhelmed. There are so many people and I find it quite draining.”

    Highly-Anticipated Movies in 2021

Hollywood studios have a bunch of potential blockbusters and tentpoles lined up for next year in hopes of bringing back the industry to life after COVID-19 lockdown shut down the business.

    Dec 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – After months long of being confined in home and restricted to many leisure activities as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, many can’t wait to jump start 2021 in the hopes of opening a new chapter that will be filled with more positive things than what has been happening in the past 12 months. For movie lovers, one of the things to look forward to in the new year is being able to go back to theaters without having to worry about their safety to watch movies they have been highly-anticipating.
Finger-crossed that the said wish will come true, Hollywood studios are lining up a bunch of potential blockbusters and tentpoles that are expected to bring back the industry to life after COVID-19 lockdown basically shut down the business. Though the coronavirus outbreak has halted shootings of some projects, fans can rest assured that these production houses still have a bunch of exciting pics to offer. Additionally, with several films that were initially scheduled for 2020 having been pushed back to next year, there are more than enough options for fans to choose from.
Having been discussed and developed even several years before they will finally arrive, some of the movies have gained mass of eagerly-awaiting fans. If you’re already struggling to decide which ones to watch when the time comes, or you haven’t caught up with what are up in the sleeve for next year, AceShowbiz has prepared a guide to highly-anticipated movies in 2021 below.

    1. ACTION, THRILLER
    Universal Pictures/WENN/Nigel Cornell

For the past few months, whether or not “No Time to Die” will actually be released has been the question that many were wondering to know the answer. Well, the wait may finally be over next spring when the new 007 movie is unleashed in theaters. Bringing back Bond from his retirement, the pic will also introduce a slew of new characters, including a mysterious foe played by Rami Malek and a female “00” agent, portrayed by Lashana Lynch, who was supposed to replace Bond in MI6. Once again billed as the last one starring Daniel Craig, it will give fans another chance to bid farewell to his version of the British spy.
Entering summer, a new installment from another beloved franchise is ready to treat its loyal fans. After being pushed aside due to the development of the spin-off, “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”, “F9” will reunite the Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel)-led gang that people have been missed so much. Giving another reason not to miss the movie, this will be the third to last film in the franchise, which is planned to end with an 11th installment. The sentimental touch aside, “F9” is promised to present the suspense that has been in the vein of the film series since the beginning.
Still speaking of movie with high-octane action sequences, Tom Cruise has been hard at work to make sure “Mission: Impossible VII” remains on track for its July release. Already teased with leaked behind-the-scenes photos and footage were some death-defying stunts that the lead actor/producer was directly involved in the filming. With the high stakes that the cast and crew are willing to risk and the big budget prepared for the production amid the pandemic, the next “M:I” movie is guaranteed to not disappoint moviegoers.
Other action, thriller movies to be released in 2021: “The King’s Man” (Feb. 12), “Top Gun: Maverick” (Jul. 2), “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” (Aug. 20), “Snake Eyes” (Oct. 22) and many more

    2. SUPERHERO, COMIC BOOK ADAPTATION
Sony Pictures/Warner Bros. Pictures/Walt Disney Pi

Superhero and comic book adaptations have been major attraction to theaters in the last decade and that excitement will hopefully return when some titles from MCU and DCEU are coming to big screen in 2021. “Morbius”, based on another Marvel character, is one of them. Developed as part of Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, it is likely to take gritty and dark route in the vein of “Venom”. With Daniel Espinosa at the helm and Jared Leto as the title character, it is expected to be the first of a new successful franchise for the studio.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is still putting so much hope on a popular DC Comics character, Batman. Once again rebooted with Robert Pattinson taking on the mantle, “The Batman” explores the early year of the Caped Crusader as the protector of Gotham City. Doubts were cast on the actor’s casting due to his past portfolio that didn’t support the genre, but he has appeared to show his seriousness in transforming into Bruce Wayne, citing Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans as his inspirations. With Matt Reeves, who has built his reputation with sci-fi films like “Cloverfield” and the “Apes” movies, as director, this new Batman movie seems to have a solid case to bring the superhero back to its glory.
Elsewhere at Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige is launching a new franchise as part of Phase Four of the MCU with “The Eternals”, which features a superhero ensemble. Boasting a star-studded cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh and Don Lee (Ma Dong Seok) among others, it doesn’t only show the studio’s commitment to race diversity, but also the inclusion of LGBTQ characters.
Other superhero movies and comic book adaptations to be released in 2021: “Black Widow” (May 7), “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (Jul. 9), “The Suicide Squad” (Aug. 6), Untitled Spider-Man 3 Movie (Dec. 17)

    3. ADVENTURE, FANTASY, SCI-FI
    Warner Bros. Pictures/Walt Disney Pictures/Legenda

Having been long plotted with each character earlier being introduced in its own solo movies, two of the earth’s fictional mightiest monsters are set to face off against one another in “Godzilla vs. Kong”. Being delayed from its planned November 2020 release due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the showdown will finally be happening in the summer of 2021, bringing bigger catastrophe than what has been witnessed in the Godzilla and King Kong films. To make the battle fair, King Kong appears to have gone through a massive growth spurt since he wasn’t an adult yet in “Kong: Skull Island”.
From the studio that has brought to audience the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise before, comes a new film based on another Walt Disney’s theme park attraction of the same name. “Jungle Cruise” pairs Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with Emily Blunt as the main characters, who are on a mission into a jungle to find the Tree of Life which is believed to possess healing powers. With Jaume Collet-Serra, who are known for his works on horror and action films like “Orphan” and “Unknown”, serving as director, it’s interesting to see the direction he’s taking for this Disney movie.
Another movie postponed from 2020, “Dune” is the first of a planned two-part adaptation of the 1965 sci-fi novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. The sneak peeks have teased the stunning visuals to represent fictional planet Arrakis, while the ensemble cast features Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson (II), Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem and Jason Momoa just to name a few. Showing its vote of confidence with the franchise, Legendary has been developing a spin-off series that will focus on the Bene Gesserit and serve as a prequel to the film.
Other adventure, fantasy and sci-fi movies to be released in 2021: “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” (Jun. 11), “Uncharted” (Jul. 16)

    4. HORROR
    Paramount Pictures/MGM/Universal Pictures

If spooky is your definition of interesting, then here are a few options of films to watch that will meet your satisfaction. Following the success of 2018’s “A Quiet Place”, a sequel is a no-brainer. While the anticipation was high, the wait for “A Quiet Place: Part II” has been prolonged due to the delay caused by the pandemic. Still with John Krasinski at the helm, it follows the Abbotts who must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Amping up the suspense, it brings new major threats in the form of new creatures that lurk beyond the sand path.
While a “A Quiet Place” franchise is bringing an unknown world to moviegoers, fans of horror films must be already familiar with “Candyman”. The lore, which is based on the short story “The Forbidden” by Clive Barker, was first brought to life in 1992, with the upcoming movie being billed as a direct sequel. The previously-released trailer hints at a psychological twist in the plot that centers on a visual artist exploring the ghost story about a supernatural killer that is summoned by repeating his name five times into a mirror. With a screenplay written by Jordan Peele, it will hopefully bring justice to the underrated original movie.
Coming the pumpkin festival, a fictional serial killer is back terrorizing in “Halloween Kills”. Developed following the critical and financial success of 2018’s “Halloween”, the the twelfth installment in the horror franchise once again pits Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) against her relentless chaser Michael Myers, portrayed by James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle. As majority of the film had been completed before its original planned release last October, producer Jason Blum claimed to have watched it and gushed in March, “I just saw ‘Halloween Kills’. It was So good. So good. It’s intense. It’s huge. It really feels really big.”
Other horror movies to be released in 2021: “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” (Jun. 4), “Spiral” (May 21)

    5. DRAMA, ROMANCE
    Walt Disney Pictures/MGM/20th Century Fox

Being faint-hearted is not a reason to avoid going to theaters altogether as there is also a bunch of selections for the gentle soul. “Cruella” is one of this kind of spectacles that will help people come to understanding of how Cruella de Vil, the wicked villain in 1996’s “101 Dalmatians”, turned into the ruthless and terrifying legend she is known today. With Craig Gillespie, who was behind awards-winning movie “I, Tonya” as director, “Cruella” is likely more than just a family movie that is easy to watch.
Also seeing the formative years of a well-known figure, “Respect” is a biographical drama film based on the life of real singer Aretha Franklin. Oscar winner and singer Jennifer Hudson is taking on the lead role, having proven her singing prowess that hopefully will bring justice to the reenactment of the late Queen of Soul’s musical performances. Not only depicting her journey to stardom, but it will also explore her interpersonal relationships, most notably how her abusive husband and autocratic father helped inspire and shape her epochal music.
In addition to those two films mentioned above, there is “West Side Story” for those looking for something more romantic. Directed by prolific and awards-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg who doesn’t need further introduction, its screenplay is expected to hew more closely to the 1957 Broadway musical of the same name than to previous film adaptation, which was released in 1961. Starring Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler as the film’s leads, the musical drama is a new take on a star-crossed love story set in 1950s New York City.
Other drama movies to be released in 2021: “Cinderella” (Feb. 5), “Marry Me” (Feb. 12), “Newark” (Mar. 12), “King Richard” (Nov. 19)

    6. COMEDY, FAMILY
    Warner Bros. Pictures/Walt Disney Pictures/Univers

Who doesn’t know “Tom & Jerry”? After decades of being the central characters in the truest depiction of cat-and-mouse game, these longtime foes are getting their second only feature film adaptation. The upcoming movie makes use of the advanced technology and combines live-action footage with computer-animated graphics to present a more realistic look at the slapstick humor as the result of the title characters’ mischief. The story follows Jerry taking up residence in a hotel as Tom is hired to keep him from ruining an important wedding, with Chloe Moretz, Colin Jost, Rob Delaney and Ken Jeong among the voice cast.
Never one to be left behind when it comes to a family entertainment, Walt Disney Pictures has prepared its own animated movie for 2021, “Raya and the Last Dragon”. Coming from the studio that has brought to viewers critically-acclaimed films like “Moana”, “Frozen (2013)” and many more, this upcoming original film is promised to deliver inspirational message about bravery and trust in humankind with a story about a warrior princess and the last dragon.
In a slightly different approach than those two films mentioned above, “The Boss Baby: Family Business” is an animated comedy family film that also offers adult humor. Though critics were divided over the first film’s confusing tone, 2017’s “The Boss Baby” that featured the voice of Alec Baldwin proved that its cutting-edge wits catered to not only kids, but also adults. The sequel will find The Templeton brothers becoming adults and being drifted away from each other.
Other comedy and family movies to be released in 2021: “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway” (Jan. 15), “Minions: The Rise of Gru” (Jul. 2), “Space Jam: A New Legacy” (Jul. 16), “Hotel Transylvania 4” (Aug. 6), “Paw Patrol: The Movie” (Aug. 20) and “The Addams Family 2” (Oct. 8)

Steven Soderbergh at Odds With Movie Boss During Talks to Direct James Bond Movie

    WENN

The Oscar-winning director admits he was close to sitting behind the lens for a 007 movie but the negotiations eventually broke down because of creative differences.

    Dec 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – Steven Soderbergh has admitted “important” creative differences stopped him directing a James Bond movie.
The “Ocean’s” trilogy filmmaker was once in talks with Eon Productions boss Barbara Broccoli – who oversees the 007 franchise – about being at the helm of a Bond blockbuster.
Asked about the discussions, he told the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, “Absolutely, I love that world. We were at odds about some things that were important.”
“We had some great conversations. It was fun to think about, but we just couldn’t… the last ten yards were, we just couldn’t do it, we couldn’t figure it out.”

      See also…

However, Soderbergh would instead incorporate some of his 007 ideas into his other films, including 2011 action-thriller “Haywire”, which starred Gina Carano as black ops operative Mallory Kane who is betrayed by her employers and targeted for assassination.
“Aspects of it have shown up elsewhere. I would say, there are things in Haywire, in terms of its approach to the character, and it’s not a big movie, but there’s a little bit of activity in it,” he added. “That’s a hint of the kind of attitude I was looking for.”
And despite not getting to work on a Bond film yet, he’s still looking forward to watching Daniel Craig’s upcoming final turn as the fictional spy in “No Time to Die”, which was delayed until April 2021.
“I hope they’re able to figure out the release of the new one,” he said.

Lashana Lynch Faces 'Abuse' From Racist Haters for Becoming First Black 007 Agent in 'No Time to Die

    Harper’s Bazaar U.K. Magazine/Richard Phibbs

The ‘Captain Marvel’ actress opens up about the ‘abuse’ and ‘attacks’ she has to endured from the racist haters on social media over her revolutionary role in the new James Bond movie.

    Nov 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actress Lashana Lynch endured “abuse” and “attacks” after she was cast as the first black 007 in the new James Bond movie, “No Time to Die”.
The “Captain Marvel” star has made history with the role of Nomi, a secret agent who inherits the 007 moniker from the titular spy, played by Daniel Craig.
But the news of her career-making opportunity was met with racist comments on social media.
“I am one black woman – if it were another black woman cast in the role, it would have been the same conversation, she would have got the same attacks, the same abuse,” she told Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

      See also…

“I just have to remind myself that the conversation is happening and that I’m a part of something that will be very, very revolutionary.”
The British actress worked to ensure she represented the black experience authentically through the character.
“A character that is too slick, a cast-iron figure? That’s completely against what I stand for,” Lynch added. “I didn’t want to waste an opportunity when it came to what Nomi might represent.
“I searched for at least one moment in the script where black audience members would nod their heads, tutting at the reality but glad to see their real life represented. In every project I am part of, no matter the budget or genre, the black experience that I’m presenting needs to be 100 per cent authentic.”
“No Time to Die” is scheduled for release in April (21).

Rami Malek on Rumors His 'No Time to Die' Character Is Bond Villain Dr. No: 'You Will Be Shocked'

    Universal Pictures

The Academy Award-winning actor responds to fan theories that he’s secretly playing Dr. No, though his villainous character has been officially addressed as Safin.

    Nov 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – A good movie is known for keeping a twist until the climax, so Rami Malek won’t spill any about his movie “No Time to Die”. Amid the long wait for the next James Bond film, the actor has responded to one of biggest fan theories about his villainous character.
There have been rambling talks that the “Bohemian Rhapsody” star is secretly playing Dr. No in the upcoming movie, though his character has been officially addressed as Safin in interviews and promotional photos. Dr. No is the first villain that the 007 agent ever faced on the big screen.
Fueling the speculation is the fact that Malek’s character is barely seen without gloves on in footage of the movie. Dr. No famously had robotic hands in the 1962 Bond film, which was titled after the main villain.

      See also…

In a new interview with British GQ, Malek admitted that he’s aware of the rumors saying he’s possibly playing a 21st incarnation of Dr. No. “Yes,” he responded to the question, nodding thoughtfully. Remaining tight-lipped, he added, “That’s interesting. I’m not going to bite on that, but I do think it’s interesting. They’ll just have to wait and see.”
One thing for sure, the 39-year-old actor claimed that viewers will be blown away by the film. “Let the rumors fly,” he said, before teasing, “because no matter what you expect from this movie, you will be shocked when you watch the film. I will not add any fuel to that fire.”
Director Cary Fukunaga, meanwhile, explained how “No Time to Die” villain is designed as the largest Bond film to date. “Once we got into Christoph Waltz/Blofeld territory, you can’t go small again,” he told the publication. “We had to think bigger. It’s tricky because you don’t want to make a cliche super villain, but you have to make someone that’s threatening not only to Bond and the people he loves but to the world at large.”
“No Time to Die” theatrical release has been pushed back several times due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Most recently, MGM and Eon Productions announced that the movie will arrive on April 2, 2021.

  • James Bond Bosses Demand $600M Deal to Bring 'No Time to Die' to Streaming Site

    Universal Pictures

The producers of the new 007 movie fronted by Daniel Craig allegedly asks for $600 million deal from any streaming service interested in premiering the upcoming superspy film.

    Oct 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Bosses at MGM Studios reportedly put a $600 million price tag on new James Bond movie “No Time to Die” as they considered a streaming deal in place of a theatrical release.
The movie, Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007, was supposed to be released back in April 2020, but was pushed back until November right at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. It has since been pushed back again until April, 2021 – and Variety reported producers considered scrapping the theatrical release altogether.
“The studio was said to be looking for a deal of roughly $600 million – a price tag that was deemed too rich for two of the free-spending streaming services,” the publication claimed, with Apple TV+ and Netflix among the platforms reportedly in the mix for the possible acquisition.

A representative told Variety, “We do not comment on rumors. The film is not for sale. The film’s release has been postponed until April 2021 in order to preserve the theatrical experience for moviegoers.”
“No Time to Die”, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, also stars Jeffrey Wright, Lea Seydoux, and Rami Malek.
Rumor has it, Tom Hardy and Harry Styles are among the frontrunners seriously considered to be the next 007 superspy agent when Craig finally leaves. “Don’t f**k it up,” Craig jokingly warned his successor. “It’s a beautiful, amazing thing. Don’t f**k it up! Leave it better than when you found it.”
The new male lead, however, won’t be named anytime soon. The new replacement will be announced only after the latest movie installment is released.

  • Daniel Craig's Replacement Won't Be Named Until 'No Time to Die' Gets Released, Bond Producer Says

    Universal Pictures

While she stresses that the producers ‘just cannot think about anything beyond’ their current lead man, Barbara Broccoli is not oppose to the idea of 007 being a person of color.
    Oct 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – James Bond movie boss Barbara Broccoli has urged fans and the media to stop speculating about the next 007, insisting she won’t be naming names until after Daniel Craig’s final outing as the spy is in cinemas next Easter (2021).
The actor has made it clear that “No Time to Die” will be his last Bond film and bookmakers are taking serious bets on who will replace him, with Tom Hardy emerging as a favourite.
Insiders suggested the Bond producers were just weeks away from confirming Hardy as Craig’s successor when “No Time to Die” was yanked from a November release due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis and pushed to April, and now Broccoli tells Total Film she won’t be confirming any casting details until the new film is in cinemas.
“I always say, ‘You can only be in love with one person at a time’,” she explains. “Once the film’s come out, then some time will pass, and then we’ll have to get on to the business of the future. But for now, we just cannot think about anything beyond Daniel.”

      See also…

“It (Bond film) will have to be reimagined, in the way each actor has reimagined the role. That’s what is so exciting and fun about this franchise; the character evolves. Eventually, when we have to think about it, we’ll find the right person.”
And it appears the producer is open to Bond being a person of colour – like Idris Elba, who is another fan favourite for the role.
“He doesn’t need to be a white man,” she adds. “Not as far as I’m concerned.”
But she won’t be making a film with Bond reimagined as a woman, stating, “We should create roles for women, not just turn a man into a woman.”
In a new JustJared poll, “Outlander” star Sam Heughan, who previously auditioned to play 007, beat out Tom Hiddleston as the favourite to land the superspy role, with Welshman Luke Evans coming in third.
