Ian McFarlane on new show Forever Oz

We met Ian McFarlane back in 2020 when we spoke to him about Revellers Society. He is now back with Forever Oz, which, as the title suggests, is based on L. Frank Baum’s series of books from which The Wizard Of Oz came. But rest assured, this is not a new stage adaptation of the film we all know and love, but instead is based on the second and third books in the series, along with some adaptations by Ian himself.

Ian’s love of not just the Oz books, but Peter Pan are clear to hear as he tells us about the show and why his theatre company is called Big Adventure Productions. Plus we discuss why he the show will be playing at Barnes OSO Arts Centre before hopefully a tour.

Forever Oz plays at OSO Arts Centre 19 – 22 May. Further information and bookings here. More

Interview: Down In The Tube Station At Midnight

Actor and writer Will Charlton on two plays, Jumper and The Boys

Our guest on our Runn Radio show this week was Will Charlton. Will is both an actor and writer, so there was plenty to chat about. He is currently preparing to play in Joshua King‘s Jumper at Lion and Unicorn Theatre, and straight after that, he is then gearing up for his own play, The Boys, to make its debut at New Wimbledon Theatre’s Studio space.

Jumper is set across two time frames five years apart, both on the night’s of elections. And in the first, he is stuck on the underground with a host of other passengers. Whilst The Boys is about struggling to pay the rent and considering the option of becoming a male escort. Both gave us plenty to talk about.

Jumper plays at Lion and Unicorn between 5 and 9 April. More information and bookings here. More

Interview: Leading Us Up The Spiral Path

Playwright Andrew Sharpe on his new play, The Spiral Path

For our latest podcast interview, we caught up with Andrew Sharpe, whose latest play, The Spiral Path, is days away from opening at The White Bear Theatre. But this won’t be its stage debut, that was at The Maltings Theatre earlier this year when it was well received. Enough so that it was picked up to come to one of London’s great Fringe Theatre venues.

As well as telling us about the play, Andrew discusses the writing process, which for The Spiral Path, was evolving it from two short playlets into a full length play. He also tells us about being a more mature entrant into writing, having previously been a lawyer, and how joyful it is to see your play on the stage, having handed the script to a director and then being very hands-off.

    The Spiral Path

Five characters, bereaved, betrayed, and befuddled by random acts of cruelty. Five interwoven tragedies cut together, a deeply personal examination of life, love and loss.

Off the back of a very well received run at The Maltings Theatre, St Albans; KatAlyst & Mad Stallion Productions are delighted to bring this thought-provoking piece of new writing to a London audience at The White Bear Theatre.

Inspired by the tragic number of cyclists killed in London every year, The Spiral Path weaves a suite of hilariously dysfunctional narratives, a family in chaos, a best friend betrayed, against a backdrop of deep and lasting grief of a bereavement, and the brutal repression of sexual identity.

The Spiral Path comes to The White Bear Theatre between 22 and 26 March. Further information and bookings via the below link. More

Interview: Erupting onto the stage with Volcano

Proforca’s David Brady talks about upcoming play Volcano

For our latest interview on Runn Radio we spoke to David Brady. He’s been a guest on our show before, talking about Lately (you can catch up with that interview here). So it was our pleasure to welcome him back to talk about their latest show, Volcano. This show is a collaboration with Chewboy Productions‘ Georgie Bailey, who were in fact they were our first guest on our podcast (here).

Volcano is billed as “One Man. One City. One Night to Remember.” It sees Max embark on a 12-hour odyssey across London that will change his life forever.

We talk with David about the play, why he teamed up with Chewboy Productions for this play and whether they have succeeded in his desire to create a piece without any set. And we also discuss how fringe theatre can find a home outside of London.

Volcano plays at Lion and Unicorn Theatre from 8 to 12 March, tickets are £14 from here. More

Interview: Escaping into real life with DeFriest

Aaron-Lee Eyles and Jay O’Connell on new play DeFriest

We’ve interviewed Unmarked Theatre‘s Aaron-Lee Eyles previously about I Didn’t Want This, I Just Wanted You, so it was a pleasure to invite him back onto our Runn Radio show to chat about his latest show DeFriest. And this time he brought along his lead actor, Jay O’Connell.

DeFriest, much like I Didn’t Want This, I Just Wanted You, is based on real life. It tells the story of Mark DeFriest, an American who has spent much of his adult life in prison. He earned some attention when he was dubbed the Houdini of Florida due to his numerous attempted prison escapes; it is claimed he has made 13 attempts to escape, succeeding on seven occasions. But the play isn’t about prison escapes, but more about the man who has been in and out of prison most of his life, even though it is widely agreed that the reason for much of it is his mental health, something that has never been fully addressed.

The play is on at Lion and Unicorn Theatre from 10 – 15 March. Tickets can be booked here. More

#Interview: Asking that tricky question, How Disabled Are You?

    Author: Everything Theatre

in Features and Interviews, Podcasts, Runn Radio interview

    12 February 2022

Tommy, aka The Queer Historian, talks about his show, How DIsabled Are you?

How Disabled Are You? explores the difficulties and prejudices faced by benefit claimants. It’s a topic rife for horror stories of what people have had to go through, so we thought a perfect subject for us to chat about with Tommy.

Another show originally planned for Vault Festival, this interview was recorded prior to the festival cancellation. But that shouldn’t make it any less of a must-listen as we talk about the show, the difficulties Tommy has faced, and just why it probably isn’t a show for Daily Mail readers.

The show currently doesn”t have any confirmed new dates, but we suggest following Tommy on Twitter here to keep up to date with new announcements. More
