Artist of the Week: Taylor Swift

The ‘Willow’ hitmaker kicks off New Year by sitting atop Billboard music chart as her new studio album ‘Evermore’ holds the first position for the second consecutive week.

    Jan 4, 2021
AceShowbiz – Taylor Swift is celebrating New Year at the pinnacle of Billboard music charts. Her new studio album “Evermore” ruled Hot 200 for the second week in a row. It additionally reached No. 1 in various other countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
The new album was described a sister album to her previous set “Folklore”. She explained, “I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning.”
Although “Evermore” was released less than a year after “Folklore”, Taylor insisted she didn’t rush the creative process. After breaking a lot of milestones with her previous sets, she took her time as she struggled with a lot of pressures to top herself and craft particular types of songs.

After much contemplation, she decided to take an unusual route with her new music and threw away her “checklist.” She explained, “I thought, ‘Wait, this could be an opportunity for me to do things in a way I haven’t ever done them before. What would my work sound like if I took away all of my fear-based check listing that I have inflicted on myself?’ ”
The Grammy-winning singer/songwriter took the risk and it paid off. Both albums entered the first positions on Hot 200, making her the third female artist to have eight chart-topping albums behind music icons Barbra Streisand (11) and Madonna (9).
When “Evermore” debuted atop the Billboard chart, “Folklore” also gained a new steam and sat at the third place. The feat made the “Blank Space” hitmaker the first woman to simultaneously place her two albums in the top-three since the music chart was launched back in 1963.

Taylor Swift Makes History as 'Evermore' Debuts at No. 1 in U.K.

    Instagram

The ‘Cardigan’ singer becomes the first artist after David Bowie to top the U.K. albums chart with two albums in the same year following the release of ‘Folklore’ sister album.

    Dec 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Taylor Swift has become the first artist since 2016 to top the U.K. albums chart with two different projects in the same calendar year.
“Evermore” has debuted at number one, just five months after the pop superstar achieved the same feat with her surprise July release, “Folklore”.
David Bowie was the last performer to pull off the double victory with “Blackstar” in January 2016, and “Best of Bowie” just weeks later, following his death from cancer.
“Evermore” earns Swift her sixth U.K. chart-topper, becoming only the fourth female artist to boast such success, following Madonna, who has 12 number ones, Kylie Minogue, who has eight, and Barbra Streisand, who has six.
Back in the countdown, Neil Diamond’s “Classic Diamonds” orchestral compilation climbs to number two, ahead of Michael Ball and Alfie Boe’s “Together at Christmas”.

Meanwhile, Mariah Carey classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has held on for a second week at number one – 26 years after its original release.
The holiday favourite keeps “Last Christmas” by Wham! at two, and Swift song “Willow” debuts at three.
Two other “Evermore” tracks, “Champagne Problems” and “No Body, No Crime” featuring Haim, also enter the countdown at 15 and 19, respectively.
Taylor Swift described the creative process of making “Evermore” as “pure” as she got rid of her usual “checklist.”
“I threw it away,” she said, “and I definitely could have gone into the pandemic thinking, ‘I’ve got to wait for everything to open up so I can do things exactly the way that I am used to doing them.’ But then about three days in, I thought, ‘Wait, this could be an opportunity for me to do things in a way I haven’t ever done them before. What would my work sound like if I took away all of my fear-based check listing that I have inflicted on myself?’ So I guess – I know the answer now.”

Taylor Swift Enjoyed Recording 'Evermore' Without Having Her Usual 'Checklist'

    Instagram

The ‘Cardigan’ singer gushes about the ‘pure’ way she made her latest studio album ‘Evermore’ as she talks about the creative process of the new studio installment.

    Dec 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Taylor Swift enjoyed not having to “check a list” with her latest albums.
The “Cardigan” hitmaker released “Folklore” and its sister album “Evermore” this year (20) and has enjoyed being able to pen songs without a usual “checklist” in her mind as she used to feel a “lot of pressure” to craft particular types of songs.
Speaking about her spontaneity on the records, she told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, “Pure is a really, really perfect word for that because what happens to you as your career builds and builds and builds and builds is that if you’ve accomplished a thing in the past, all of a sudden you’re expected to accomplish that thing plus another new thing, plus this other thing over here.”

“It becomes sort of like I had felt at times when I felt a lot of pressure, I had felt like I was doing some sort of obstacle course. And that’s not how you should feel when you’re creating. You shouldn’t feel like, ‘I need to make a tracklist where this one’s for the stadium show, this one’s for radio, this one’s for people who want to get in their feelings.’ Check, check, check, and you can end up doing that.”
And Taylor also revealed it is something other artists like Ed Sheeran have felt too.
“And it’s good to have friends who are artists who have similar pressures,” she continued. “Like Ed Sheeran and I talk about this a great deal. This was a time when we both stepped back, and I would say to him, ‘This is the first time I felt like I threw the checklist away.’ Like I threw it away and I definitely could have gone into the pandemic thinking, ‘I’ve got to wait for everything to open up so I can do things exactly the way that I am used to doing them.’ But then about three days in, I thought, ‘Wait, this could be an opportunity for me to do things in a way I haven’t ever done them before. What would my work sound like if I took away all of my fear-based check listing that I have inflicted on myself?’ So I guess – I know the answer now.”

Taylor Swift Admits 'Woodvale' Is Code Name but It's Not for Her Next Album

    ABC

The ‘Shake It Off’ singer sets the record straight on the internet chatters suggesting that her upcoming studio installment after ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’ will be titled ‘Woodvale’.

    Dec 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Taylor Swift has shot down fans’ rumours that “Woodvale” is the name of an upcoming album.
The “Folklore” star is known for leaving “Easter eggs” – little hints about future projects – for fans in her singles and music videos. However, appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Monday (14Dec20), Taylor admitted she took things “too far” recently – and ended up making a mistake.
“Well, this takes a bit of explanation. I tend to be sort of annoyingly secret-agent-y about dropping clues and hints and Easter eggs. It’s very annoying, but it’s fun for fans and it’s fun for me because they like to pick up on things,” she explained. “And they’ll notice lots of things in music videos and photos or whatever. Sometimes I take it too far and make a mistake.”

“Basically, when I was making Folklore, the album that came out back in July, I was too afraid to even unveil the title of the album to even my closest teammates and management. I didn’t tell anyone the album title until right before it came out. I came up with a fake code name that had the same amount of letters as Folklore. Chose a random name. Chose Woodvale. Wanted to see how it would look on the album covers, mocked them up, and then decided I don’t actually want to have a title on the album covers. And we forgot to take the fake code name off of one of them.”
Taylor added she “learned her lesson” with the error when she chose the code name November for her most recent album “Evermore”, smiling, “We remembered to take it off the mock-ups of the album covers before we released it this time. We learned our lesson.”

And when host Kimmel suggested another title for a future album, Taylor laughed, “I’m so tired. I’m so exhausted. I’ve tired myself out. I have nothing left.”

Swift stunned fans last week (ends11Dec20) by announcing she was releasing “Evermore” – her second surprise album of the year – on Friday.
“Ever since I was 13, I’ve been excited about turning 31 because it’s my lucky number backwards, which is why I wanted to surprise you with this now,” she wrote on Instagram when revealing the track list. “You’ve all been so caring, supportive and thoughtful on my birthdays and so this time I thought I would give you something!”
She explained her new album tackled an “‘unhappily ever after’ anthology of marriages gone bad that includes infidelity, ambivalent toleration, and even murder…One starring my grandmother, Marjorie, who still visits me sometimes…if only in my dreams.”

Taylor Swift Pursues the One in 'Willow' Music Video

    [embedded content]

In a continuation to her ‘Cardigan’ music video, the ‘Lover’ singer crawls back into her piano and emerges in a forest before being transported into different settings to follow her man.

    Dec 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Taylor Swift has released her surprise new album “Evermore” along with a music video for its track “Willow”. Picking up where she left off from her “Cardigan” video, the newly-premiered clip opens with the pop superstar being drenched wet while still wearing her cardigan and sitting in what looks like an old cabin with a piano that serves as a time portal behind her.
It doesn’t take long before the 30-year-old singer/songwriter crawls back into the piano and emerges in a forest where she sees a reflection of her “man” in the river. She then sets on a journey to follow her love interest that takes her on several different settings, before she ends up in the same rustic cabin where the man waits for her.

“The more that you say, the less I know/ Wherever you stray, I follow/ I’m begging for you to take my hand, wreck my plans/ That’s my man,” she sings in the chorus. “You know that my train could take you home/ Anywhere else is hollow/ I’m begging for you to take my hand/ Wreck my plans, that’s my man.”

“Willow” is the lead single off “Evermore”, the ninth studio album by Swift which is dubbed a sister album to her hit album”Folklore”, which arrived in July. The “Shake It Off” hitmaker worked with the same team she created “Folklore” with, including Aaron Dessner of The National, Jack Antonoff, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and her boyfriend Joe Alwyn, who is credited as a co-writer under the name William Bowery.
She posted on Instagram on midnight Friday, December 11 to celebrate the album release, “I have no idea what will come next. I have no idea about a lot of things these days and so I’ve clung to the one thing that keeps me connected to you all. That thing always has and always will be music. And may it continue, evermore.” She added, “My new album evermore is out now.”

“Evermore” also features a collaboration with HAIM on “No Crime”, “Coney Island” featuring The National and “Evermore” featuring Bon Iver. The deluxe physical edition includes two bonus tracks “Right Where You Left Me” and “It’s Time to Go”.
