Selena Gomez and Jennifer Lopez are booked to promote COVID-19 vaccination through a music event. The two superstars are on board to support a star-studded concert called “Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World”.Presented by Global Citizen, the concert will be hosted by Gomez and feature performances by J.Lo, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, J Balvin and H.E.R.. among others. The event will be pre-taped at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and air May 8 at P.M. ET on CBS and ABC, followed with broadcast on FOX at 11 P.M.
YouTube, iHeartMedia radio stations and the iHeartRadio app will also air the show. YouTube’s version of the concert will run to 90 minutes and include additional performances, including a number by the K-pop group NCT 127 and content from some of the platform’s more prominent video creators.
The event’s goal is to inspire confidence in COVID-19 vaccines and encourage people to be inoculated in countries where it is available. It also aims to encourage corporations and philanthropists to use their money to help get vaccines to 27 million frontline workers in countries where vaccinations are not yet available even to those most in danger.

Global Citizen co-founder/CEO Hugh Evans also explained the purpose of the event, “As a global community, we are in a race against time and the key to coming back together is the vaccine. We need to build vaccine confidence in the U.S. and globally, and encourage people to take the vaccine as quickly as possible.”
“There is a light at the end of this tunnel,” Evans added, “but getting vaccines to everyone, everywhere regardless of who they are or where they are from, is key to ensuring the end of this pandemic around the world. We must all unite to get back on track to eradicating extreme poverty.”
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has voiced his support for the concert. He stated, “Global Citizen is giving voice to a core message to Angelenos, Americans, and citizens of the world: every time someone gets vaccinated, we move another step closer to ending this pandemic. ‘Vax Live’ will open our eyes to the future we can forge if we all do our part, follow health guidelines and get our shots as soon as we’re eligible – a return to concerts with our fellow fans, gatherings with loved ones, and the embrace of family and friends.”

Sean Combs, the hip-hop mogul who crafted a business empire around his personal brand, was convicted on Wednesday of transporting prostitutes to participate in his drug-fueled sex marathons, but acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, the most serious charges against him.Though Mr. Combs, 55, still faces a potential sentence of as much as 20 years in prison, he and his lawyers were jubilant after the acquittals on the more severe charges in an indictment that accused the famed producer of coercing women into unwanted sex with male prostitutes, aided by a team of pliant employees.Mr. Combs had faced a possible life sentence. Under the transportation charges, set by the federal Mann Act, each of the two convictions carries a maximum term of 10 years, and the judge could set lesser sentences to run concurrently.After the verdict was read in Federal District Court in Lower Manhattan, Mr. Combs put his hands together and mouthed “thank you, thank you” at the jury of eight men and four women. Later, he dropped to his knees, apparently in prayer, and started a round of applause. His supporters and family began clapping and whistling for his legal team, who embraced one another at the conclusion of the eight-week trial.“Mr. Combs has been given his life by this jury,” Marc Agnifilo, Mr. Combs’s lead lawyer, said in court following the verdict.The mood slumped hours later when Judge Arun Subramanian ordered Mr. Combs, who has been held in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his September 2024 arrest, back to jail until his sentencing, which is still unscheduled. Some viewed it as a setback to the progress made in recent years in holding abusive men to account.Arisha Hatch, the interim executive director of the women’s advocacy group UltraViolet, condemned the verdict as “a stain on a criminal justice system that for decades has failed to hold accountable abusers like Diddy,” using a nickname for Mr. Combs. She called it “an indictment of a culture in which not believing women and victims of sexual assault remains endemic.”Long celebrated as a visionary music executive, Mr. Combs played a pivotal role in making hip-hop a global pop force, and his Gatsbyesque penchant for spectacle turned him into a pop culture icon and a tabloid fixture. But Mr. Combs had his legacy upended in 2023 by a lawsuit filed by Ms. Ventura, who was once a singer on his record label.The lawsuit accused him of raping and physically assaulting Ms. Ventura, and of coercing her into highly orchestrated, drug-dazed sexual encounters with hired men, an accusation that introduced the term “freak-offs” into the public lexicon. The core of the government’s case relied on accounts of nights of sex and drugs in hotels across the country, which Ms. Ventura and Jane said often involved men hired through escort services who were flown in for their gatherings.Party drugs such as Ecstasy or MDMA were hallmarks of the events, sometimes known as “hotel nights” or “wild king nights,” the women said, as were copious amounts of baby oil. Mr. Combs would direct them to apply the lubricant on their bodies and have sex with the male prostitutes as he watched. During the trial, jurors saw video clips of the sexual encounters, though the contents were hidden from public view.Pointing to that evidence, Mr. Combs’s team of nine lawyers argued that the government’s case was an overreach. Though they admitted that Mr. Combs was responsible for domestic violence against Ms. Ventura, which the judge cited in his decision to deny bail, they said that the violence did not amount to sex trafficking.“He did what he did,” Mr. Agnifilo said in his closing argument last week. “But he’s going to fight to the death to defend himself on what he didn’t do.”Prosecutors called 34 witnesses over 28 days. Mr. Combs did not take the stand and the defense rested after 25 minutes, after making the bulk of its case through vigorous cross-examination of witnesses. In a closing statement dripping with sarcasm, Mr. Agnifilo appealed to the jury’s emotions in casting Mr. Combs as a successful but flawed man whose sex life was unconventional, but not criminal.In particular the defense took aim at the intensity of the law enforcement effort brought to bear against Mr. Combs, whose homes in Miami Beach, Fla., and Los Angeles were raided by what the lawyers called “a gross overuse of military-level force.” They seized weaponry and illicit drugs, but also lubricants that Mr. Combs used during sex acts.“Thank goodness for the Special Response Team,” Mr. Agnifilo told the jury. “They found the baby oil.”The success of that approach was considerable given the impact of the emotional testimony the jury heard from Ms. Ventura and Jane, who described a pattern of manipulation and control that led them to repeatedly appease the music mogul, even though sex with male escorts often left them feeling disgusted and used, and frequently suffering from urinary tract infections.“He brought the concept to me when I was 22, and I would do absolutely anything for him and I did,” Ms. Ventura testified. “And it never stopped our whole relationship. And it was expected of me, and it made me feel horrible about myself.”Ms. Ventura recounted beatings at the hands of Mr. Combs that gave her black eyes, a swollen face and bruises on her body.Several times, jurors watched security footage of Mr. Combs, wearing only a towel and socks, brutally beating Ms. Ventura in the hallway of a Los Angeles hotel in 2016. One woman, who was known in court by the pseudonym “Mia,” said Mr. Combs sexually assaulted her multiple times while she was working as his personal assistant.The biggest revelation at the trial was the story of Jane, a social media influencer who began to date Mr. Combs in secret in 2021. During more than 24 hours of testimony, Jane said she agreed to the extreme sexual demands because she wanted to please her boyfriend, but she eventually felt obligated to continue out of fear that Mr. Combs would stop paying the $10,000 monthly rent for the home where she lives with her child.Jane recalled feeling stunned by the similarities when she read Ms. Ventura’s lawsuit in 2023, texting Mr. Combs at the time, “I feel like I’m reading my own sexual trauma.”They briefly broke up but soon got back together, with Mr. Combs under criminal investigation and facing a mounting number of civil lawsuits alleging sexual abuse.“He’s just so good at showering me with love and affection, with all the sexual exploitation in between, and then showering me with love and affection,” Jane testified.She could not be reached for comment after the verdict. Ms. Ventura’s lawyer, Mr. Wigdor, said: “We’re pleased that he’s finally been held responsible for two federal crimes, something that he’s never faced in his life. AceShowbiz – Eminem has to give back the No. 1 spot on this week’s Billboard 200 chart to Roddy Ricch. The rapper’s debut album, “Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial”, is topping the weekly chart for a third non-consecutive week after racking up a little under 95,000 equivalent album units in the week ending January 30, according to Nielsen Music.
His record’s return to the top spot is largely driven by streaming activity with 92,000 SEA units contributing to its overall total of just under 95,000 units. Meanwhile, only 1,000 units were sold in album sales. Furthermore, “Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial” marks the first album to top the chart for three non-consecutive weeks after Billie Eilish did it in 2019 with “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”
Getting dethroned by Roddy, Em’s “Music to Be Murdered By” descends to No. 2 with 89,000 units. On the other hand, Billie’s debut album sees a surge in this week’s chart thanks to her big win at the 2020 Grammy Awards last month. “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”, which is named Album of the Year, jumps to No. 3 with 62,000 units. At No. 4, Halsey’s “Manic” is forced to go down two spots with 56,000 units, followed up with Post Malone’s “Hollywood’s Bleeding” at No. 5. It racked up 54,000 units.
Mac Miller’s “Circles” falls to No. 6 with 45,000 units, as DaBaby’s “Kirk” ascends to No. 7 with 36,000 units. Trailing behind the rapper’s album is Harry Styles’ “Fine Line” that moves up to No. 8 with 33,000 units. MoneyBagg Yo’s “Time Served” follows behind at No. 9 with 31,000 units, while Travis Scott (II)-leading project group Jackboys closes out the top ten with their self-titled album that sold 30,000 units.
Next week, the competition for the No. 1 spot is expected to be fierce with Lil Wayne’s “Funeral” and Kesha a.k.a. Ke$ha’s new album “High Road” vying for the spot.

AceShowbiz – Electronic dance duo Daft Punk have called it quits after 28 years.
The influential hitmakers, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, broke the news to fans on Monday (22Feb21), in a video, titled “Epilogue”.
The eight-minute clip features the pair’s robot characters walking in a desert, before one turns to the other and removes his leather jacket to unveil an energy pack. The other presses a button on the pack as his pal walks off, and then explodes.

The footage, taken from their 2006 film “Electroma”, ends with the dates, “1993-2021.”See also…
Daft Punk’s publicist, Kathryn Frazier, has since confirmed the group has parted ways although no further details have been revealed.
The musicians rose to fame in the late 1990s as part of the French house movement before blending their songs with elements of disco, funk, rock, techno, and synthpop.
They released their first album, “Homework”, in 1997 and scored hits with singles like “Around the World” and “Da Funk”.
They went on to release three more studio projects – “Discovery” in 2001, “Human After All” in 2005, and 2013’s “Random Access Memories”, which became their final album, winning five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for their Pharrell Williams collaboration, “Get Lucky”.
Their other chart smashes include “One More Time”, “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”, “Digital Love”, and “Instant Crush”.
