A “real-life David Brent” has taken Twitter by storm after his on-screen rant on a shopping channel went viral.
The Office character played by Ricky Gervais – who liked to style himself as the “world’s best boss” – bears an uncanny resemblance to the presenter.
In the clip, telesales man Rob Locke appears to go on a bit of a spiel while selling mattresses on Ideal World.
Trying to convince viewers to buy the product, he says: “It doesn’t benefit me in any way other except I suppose I get to come back another day and get to keep my job a bit longer – make up for all the other failures, you know.”

“Only joking,” he says with a Brent-like smirk, later adding: “If you don’t buy it it’s not like I’m losing money.”
The hilarious clip has been viewed more than 800,000 times since it was shared last night, with commentators in disbelief over the striking similarities between Locke and the fictional character.
Gervais himself responded to the outrageous Twitter thread, writing: “Cheeky f***er.”
When another fan asked if he and Locke were related, the comedian, actor and writer cryptically said: “Same chef.”
“I’m sorry but this is actually David Brent flogging duvets on Ideal World,” another amazed viewer said.

“The Brentmeister General as I live and breathe,” wrote a second fan.
Some mystified viewers even questioned if the video was real and suggested it was made with deep fake software.
Rob Locke himself joked about the comparison, with a nod towards his The Office counterpart.
He wrote: “I’m an entertainer first, friend second and the boss of quality, discount bedding third.”
