Barbra Streisand says she 'loves spending time' with 'sweet' Prince Charles

Barbra Streisand has confessed that she ‘loves spending time’ with Prince Charles, after he sent her flowers picked from his own gardens.

Once described as his “only pin-up”, the Funny Girl actress and the future King of England have enjoyed a distant friendship since their initial meeting in 1974.

Chatting to Ross King on Thursday’s episode of Lorraine, Barbra, 79, recounted the duo’s unlikely friendship, revealing that the pair became firm friends after meeting while Barbra was recording a project at a Warner Bros studio.

During the interview, Barbra also revealed that she “loves spending time” with the “sweet” Royal at his family residence, Highgrove House.

Of their first meeting, Barbra said: “It was so sweet. I was recording at Warner Brothers and he asked to meet me.

“I offered him a sip of tea and I thought, ‘they didn’t have to test me for poison or something!’

“But we became friends and I loved spending time at Highgrove and spending some time with him.”

She added: “I saw this bouquet of flowers and I said, ‘Who sent me that?’ and my assistant said, ‘A fan called Charles.’

“I looked and they weren’t from a florist, they were from his gardens and she mistook it as a fan.

“It was so funny. That’s Prince Charles! That was before he met Diana.”

Barbra’s comments follow her disappointing fans by confirming that she wouldn’t entertain the idea of a biopic being made of her life – at least while she’s still living.

Asked whether she’d consider a biopic of her life story in the style of Elton John’s Rocketman earlier this month, the Meet The Fockers actress told the Just for Variety podcast: “After I’m gone.

“Not while I’m alive. No, no, no, no, no, no.

“I’d just say, listen to the truth in my book and portray me truthfully, but not while I’m here. I get upset when something’s false or something’s a lie.

“That’s why I wrote the song Don’t Lie to Me.”
