Christine McGuinness fights back tears as mum marks the end of her chemotherapy

Christine McGuinness has documented her mum’s battle with breast cancer all the way through, and on a momentous day her mum finally got to ring the bell at her clinic to mark the end of her chemotherapy treatment.

Lingerie model Christine could barely contain her emotion as she took to Instagram to share an overwhelming sense of happiness and relief at the shift in her mother’s fight to beat the evil disease.

The 32-year-old posted a heart-wrenching tribute to her mum’s incredible bravery and determination throughout the process next to a picture of her ringing the bell.

And in her stories, the blonde beauty opened up and delivered a tearful message to her fans.

“Hey everyone – I’m going to try and get through this without crying,” she said, her voice nearly breaking. “I’m very, very happy, these are happy tears.

“It’s been a very emotional day today. My mum has just rang the bell.”

Explaining that this tradition for cancer patients marks the end of their painful and often very difficult treatment sessions, Christine noted that her mum had been having chemo for six months.

“She’s honestly the most amazing, strongest, incredible woman I’ve ever met,” the star went on. “She’s done it all with a smile on her face, even ringing the bell she’s laughing.

“I’m trying to pull myself together. I’m so proud of her. She’s done chemo on her own!

“This is a huge, massive milestone to get up and ring that bell. She’s laughed through it and she’s absolutely amazing.”

While elated, Christine couldn’t hide her upset at not being able to spend time with and support her mum while she’s struggling.

During the pandemic, it’s been too dangerous for hospital patients – particularly those with low white blood cell counts – to be close to their families due to the risk of contracting COVID-19.

The model admitted it’s been tough for her and her children not to see their nanny for eight months, but Christine’s mum is set to get her second vaccine for the virus in May.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to see her for summer. She’s just amazing!” Christine declared with pride.

Next to the snap of her mum ringing the bell, the star also penned: “What a woman. My mum has officially finished 6 months chemotherapy for breast cancer – this is a very happy day.

“Her treatment will continue with radiotherapy but finishing her chemo is a massive milestone.
