Dawn French 'so excited' to be TV judge she will need to wear 'double knickers'

Dawn French says she is so excited to be a TV judge she will need to wear “double knickers”.

The Vicar of Dibley star has signed up for Simon Cowell’s forthcoming new talent show Walk The Line.

She will join Gary Barlow, Alesha Dixon and Craig David on the judging panel.

Music acts will compete to win a life-changing cash prize of £500,000 on the ITV show hosted by Maya Jama.

Dawn said: “I’m far too excited to be part of this show. I’ve decided to wear double knickers at all times.”

BGT judge Alesha added: “When Simon first told me about the format, I couldn’t wait to see it come to life.”

Also Presenter Maya Jama gushed: “This has been a childhood dream of mine.

“I remember watching shows created by Simon when I was younger, and to be given the opportunity to host one myself, it has definitely been a pinch me moment.”

Craig a British singer, DJ and record producer, commented on the “innovative” and “edgy” style of the talent show, which he said was the reason he was “so excited” to join the panel.

He added: “I’m really vibed by the quality of the contestants I’ve seen so far and love that they have the chance to bet on themselves every step of the way.

“Can’t wait to get started and see who’s gonna take the money or take a leap of faith and walk the line.”

Take That’s Gary, who has had a successful TV career alongside his music having been a judge on The X Factor and Let It Shine, previously said: “When Simon calls it’s usually with something fairly extraordinary.

“I’m so excited to be involved in a brand new TV show, and of course my favourite part of Walk the Line is discovering new talent. It’s also brilliant to be working with the team at ITV again.”

The four judges are due to head into the studio together for the first time this month ahead of the show debuting on ITV later this year.

The format will see solo singers, duos or bands perform for judges with the top two deciding to either go home with a cash prize or “walk the line”.

It means they come back the next night to face new rivals in a bid to win a bigger money pot.

The longer the performers stay in the contest, the bigger the prize pot, and each night the reigning champion will be offered an even higher cashout prize.

Walk The Line will air on ITV and ITV Hub later this year
