Cheers icon Kirstie Alley's eye-watering £32.5m net worth after sudden death from cancer

Hollywood legend Kirstie Alley sadly died on Monday aged 71.

The death of the Hollywood legend, known for her role in Cheers, was announced by her children, who said she passed away after battling cancer which was only recently discovered.

In the statement, her family said: ”We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away.

”She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.

”Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.”

Kirstie raked in her fortune through her long acting career in film and TV.

Her first money spinner was starring in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan before she landed her role on

Next she landed her most famous role – playing bar manager Rebecca Howe in Cheers between 1987 and 1993.

She won Emmy and Golden Globe Awards during her time on the show.

Alley later starred in sitcom Veronica’s Closet and crime series The Last Done, and also starred in television movie David’s Mother and won an Emmy for her role.

In her later career she moved to starring in movies, appearing in Shoot to Kill , and Drop Dead Gorgeous.

After her career declined in the early 2000s she sarred in her own show called Fat Actress for one season.

Alley then made a comeback to the the public eye when she appeared in Dancing With the Stars. in 2012

Alley impressed viewers and the judges and bagged the runner up prize.

She later started her own business and focussed on an organic lifestyle.

While she amassed a fortune through her career, Kirstie never intended to be a screen star.

She originally worked as an interior designer, and got into acting after moving to LA and realising she had a knack for acting after appearing on several game shows in the city.
