Giovanni Pernice's most compatible Strictly pairings – flirty quips to steamy romance

Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Giovanni Pernice is one of the hottest performers on TV at the moment.

The Italian Stallion has danced with the likes of Good Morning Britain host Ranvir Singh and Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote, showing off a flirty chemistry with each of the celebs he’s graced the Strictly dance floor with.

With passionate moves and near-kisses in the ballroom, the audience members are the only ones to swoon for Giovanni, but we asked our body language expert, Inbaal Honigman to tell us which celebrity partner Giovanni was really compatible with.

Coronation Street star Georgia was one of Giovanni’s first celebrity partners when he joined the show in 2015. The pair came second, with their highest scoring dance being the Charleston which earned them top marks.

Despite displaying a fiery passion for one another, Inbaal believes their body language shows they “they don’t really take the other one’s feelings into consideration”.

“Footage shows awkward body language between the two. Their faces don’t mirror one another’s expressions, and their eye contact is very hit-and-miss, which shows that they don’t really take the other one’s feelings into consideration”, she said.

After the show, their chemistry proved to be real outside of the show and they started dating. At the time, Georgia told the Daily Mail that Giovanni was “everything” to her.

She said: “Gio is everything to me. I’m 100 percent happy with Gio. He’s smitten and I’m the same. We trust each other. We fell in love as friends before anything happened”.

The couple soon split in 2016 after a whirlwind romance.

Laura Whitmore

Former Love Island host Laura Whitmore had an entirely different experience with Giovanni and recalls feeling “uncomfortable” having to been partnered with her best friend’s (Georgia May Foote) recent ex.

In 2018, Laura said: “I was placed with a dance partner I was extremely uncomfortable with – and in the end I felt broken. I cried every day. And I really was broken, both mentally and physically, by the end.”

Speaking to Made In Chelsea’s Jamie Laing and Francis Boulle on their Private Parts podcast, Laura said she didn’t like spending long days with Giovanni either.

“What I didn’t like was being removed from everybody and having to spend 12 hours a day with this one person,” she revealed.

Laura added that she “just wanted to dance”, an aspect that is obvious to Inbaal.

She said: “The pairing of Laura with her best friend’s ex could have created an awkward atmosphere between herself and Giovanni, but actually when they dance, his eyes are on her at all times. They don’t seem close, but they do appear to be in it to win it.”

Michelle Visage

Transatlantic beauty Michelle Visage became one of the most iconic celebrities to dance on the BBC show, and despite her controversial exit, fans and even Michelle was stunned at his ability to really “handle her”.

Speaking on their TV Friendships That Last Forever panel at RuPaul’s Drag Con UK, Michelle mentioned numerous times during her talk that Giovanni was “the only one that could handle me.”

Fans also agreed that the pair were perfectly suited, but Michelle soon confessed that if she could have chosen her partner, she would’ve ditch him for Aljaž Škorjanec, which Giovanni was visibly shocked at.

Since the show, the pair have built a strong friendship, with Michelle praising Giovanni as her “rock” and “best friend”. Inbaal agrees, having seen this in their “confident” dances.

She stated: “They hold each other with strong, confident arms, and when they look at each other’s faces, they share little twinkly smiles. There’s no romantic connection indicated, but their strong arm and eye contact indicates that they’ve got each other’s backs.”

Ranvir Singh

Even head judge Shirley loved their chemistry

When GMB’s Ranvir Singh swapped news-casting for cha-cha-ing, fans were certain she was set to fall victim to the Strictly curse after being paired with Giovanni.

Inbaal could immediately tell that this dance couple was a pairing of two Alpha’s who have a sense of respect for one another that could be mistaken for romance.

“Both Ranvir and Giovanni move like Alpha personalities, like leaders”, she said. “Her moves and facial expression are controlled and powerful and so are his, so they regard each other with respect, and let each other have their space.”

Fans lapped up how Giovanni and Ranvir worked together, writing: “Strong chemistry, eh? Ranvir and Giovanni next for the #StrictlyCurse”.

And fans weren’t the only ones who went wild for Ranvir’s passionate moves with Giovanni in series 18.

Head judge Shirley Ballas gushed at the couples “strong chemistry” after their sexy Cha Cha got her all hot under the collar.

“I love the flirting and teasing, there’s definitely a strong chemistry between this team”, she said.

Rose Ayling-Ellis

EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis had already made headlines before busting a move for being the first ever deaf contestant on Strictly.

Paired with Giovanni, the pair formed an “unbreakable bond” and moved judges and the public with their Couple Choice dance which featured a period of silence as a tribute to the deaf community and was judge Anton Du Beke as “the greatest thing I’ve ever seen on the show”.

Our body language expert noted how their bond reflects on the dance pro, who appears to feel like “he can count on her”.

“Giovanni looks so at ease in Rose’s presence – as he looks at her face, his expression brightens, he maintains effortless eye contact with her and holds her gently,” Inbaal said.

She continued: “His embrace of her isn’t very strong, which shows that he feels he can count on her, he doesn’t need to be focused on what she does, because she can hold her own”.

At the end the show, the pair remained close friends, with Giovanni thanking the actress for “making all his dreams come true” after winning the Glitterball trophy.
