Barbra Streisand has revealed she had an X-rated conversation with Marlon Brando the first time they met as he made a vulgar sex proposition.
The Funny Girl star, 81, has released her long-awaited tell-all memoir My Name Is Barbra today (November 7). The book looks back on her incredible six-decade career as a singer, actor and director on Broadway and in Hollywood.
But it also includes details from her love life, with racy confessions including how she lost her virginity after trying marijuana for the first time and her “flirty relationship” with the “utterly charming” King Charles. She even dedicated an entire chapter to The Godfather star Marlon, who died in 2004 aged 80.

In the chapter, titled “Brando”, Barbra recalls how she first met Marlon at a party in 1966. She had been married to Elliott Gould, who she met while working on Broadway, at the time and Marlon had also been married to his third wife, Tarita Teriipaia.
But that didn’t hold him back as Barbra revealed despite his wife being in the next room, the actor made a crude proposition that left her “taken aback”. She wrote: “About three hours into the conversation, he looked into my eyes and said, ‘I’d like to f*** you’.”
Initially appalled by the bold statement, Barbra revealed she responded: “That sounds awful.” But she was more pleased when Marlon suggested: “Okay. Then I’d like to go to a museum with you.”
Barbra responded: “Now that’s very romantic. I’d like that.” She explained: “He’d hit on a fantasy of mine . . . to walk through a museum with someone I was very attracted to and look at great art . . . exploring it together.”
After asking him about his wife, Barbra revealed Marlon “didn’t mince words” when he called her a “ripe piece of fruit.” The actress understood the comparison immediately, she wrote: “The thing is, I knew exactly what he meant. She was luscious, but was that enough?”
Barbra and Marlon continued to talk about marriage and relationships until he said something “out of the blue” about her own marriage that left her shocked. “I don’t think you’re going to be with Elliott much longer,” Barbra recalled him telling her.
She added: “I was taken aback. ‘I’m married to him. What do you mean?'” She claims Brando told her he wasn’t ‘good‑looking enough for you.’ And it turned out Marlon’s prediction was correct as after eight years of marriage and welcoming a son together, Barbra and Elliot split in 1971.
Reflecting on the divorce during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning in 2020, Elliot revealed they ultimately didn’t work out because they “didn’t grow together”. Marlon also split from his wife in 1972 but despite both being unmarried, Marlon and Barbra never ended up dating.
She turned down his proposition and the pair instead became “lifelong friends and phone pals,” Vanity Fair reports. Barbra finally found love again in 1996 when she met Westworld star James Brolin at a dinner party set up by friends.
They went on to tie the knot in 1998 and have now been together for 25 years. During a joint interview with CBS Morning ahead of the release of Barbra’s memoir, the couple recalled how they first met.
Barbra said: “I walked by him, touched his hair, and said, ‘Who f***ed up your hair?’ Because that was the truth. What else was I gonna say? ‘Hello, my name is Barbra.’ I mean, what?” Meanwhile, James revealed he’d been celibate for three years before meeting Barbra and spending a “wild” night with her.
