Emmerdale viewers were left “disturbed” and dismayed over Tom King’s recent treatment of the much-loved dog, Piper.
In Wednesday’s episode (July 24), the soap unveiled what exactly transpired during their stay at a cottage. Belle, played by Eden Taylor-Droper, has been embroiled in a compelling domestic abuse plot with her new husband Tom, portrayed by James Chase, this year.
Recently, the couple, along with Belle’s dog, Piper, departed from the well-known Emmerdale village for a holiday at a cottage in Wales – a place Tom is secretly planning to make his permanent residence.
Their abrupt departure raised concerns among Belle’s family, who managed to locate Belle and made their way to the secluded cottage where they stumbled upon a shocking sight: blood smeared across a door.
The Express reports that upon seeing the blood on the door, fans were gripped with fear that Tom might have killed Piper, Belle’s dog.
And Wednesday’s episode (July 24) shed light on what exactly occurred – with flashback scenes from Tom and Belle’s arrival at the cottage.
During their stay, Piper, the dog, ended up running away. In a fit of anger and an attempt to ‘train’ the pup, Tom left the dog outside all evening – causing it great distress.
The dog’s howls could be heard later in the evening as Tom and Belle sat down for dinner – with Belle begging Tom to let Piper in. However, Tom remained resolute and the dog was left outside all night.
Belle was in a right pickle when Tom locked her in the cottage, but she managed to sneak out and give her parched pooch a bowl of water. The dog’s ordeal had viewers absolutely livid, with one raging on X, previously known as Twitter: “NO he’s so evil that dog has been outside all night! And now he’s locked her in the house so she can’t go and get her.”
Another was totally gobsmacked, posting: “I can’t watch this is disturbing.” There was even talk of Ofcom complaints, as another viewer remarked: “Cue the complaints to Ofcom.”
But don’t fret, Piper the dog was fine in the end. Belle legged it from the cottage with Piper in tow, flagged down a bus in the Welsh wilds, and left Tom for dust.
