Coronavirus sees Simple Minds cancel all shows in Germany amid COVID-19 outbreak

The global Coronavirus pandemic has seen Glasgow band Simple Minds cancel their upcoming shows in Germany and Denmark due to fears surrounding the band.

Officials in cities across the globe are currently cancelling events including large gatherings after the World Health Organization declared the outbreak as a pandemic.

Simple Minds took to their Twitter account to announce that they had cancelled all nine shows.

Taking to Twitter, the official band account said: “Tour Update: FKP Scorpio announce the cancellation of all Simple Minds shows in Germany:

“The health & safety of guests artists & staff is the highest priority. FKP Scorpio are working on alternative Simple Minds dates & will inform fans as soon as possible Tickets will remain valid”.

German authorities had earlier cancelled all large cultural events in the capital city of Berlin from Wednesday to prevent Coronavirus infecting more people.

The group were also due to perform shows in Denmark, hitting the road in Copenhagen and Herning this week but they have now been cancelled as the venue has closed.

They had earlier announced that the performances would be split into two individual performances.

The group announced the cancellations via Twitter

Announcing on social media, the group said: “We are sorry to announce that today’s planned shows in Herning, Denmark have been cancelled as the venue has closed until the end of March.

“Fans will hear from their ticket agents directly regarding refunds.”

Simple Mind formed in the 70s before catapulting to fame with hits such as Don’t You (Forget About Me) and Alive and Kicking.

Bands such as BTS have also cancelled tours amid the COVID-19 outbreak, with Canadian pop star Justin Bieber downsizing from stadiums to arenas ahead of his upcoming tour.

It’s believed that a staggering 126,000 people across the globe have suffered Coronavirus since its outbreak earlier this year.
