Tearful Gemma Atkinson didn't think daughter Mia 'would be here' on 1st birthday

Gemma Atkinson got emotional on social media as she celebrated her daughter Mia’s first birthday, thanking her for letting her be her mum.

Gemma, 35, shared a series of snaps taken from the last year of Mia, ranging from her playing inside their gym at their home, to moments after she had been born.

She and partner Gorka Marquez got emotional as they posted gushing messages to their daughter on the big day, as Gemma poured her heart out.

Gemma showed a clip of Gorka wrapping gifts in pink paper, she asked: “Does anyone else cry wrapping their child’s first birthday presents? Or is it just me?” before adding: “We had a meltdown but we’re fine. Totally fine.”

She then opened up about her emotions in a later video, saying: “I think I’m so emotional because of how Mia was born.

“There was a brief moment in labour that I didn’t think she’d be here at all never mind have the most wonderful year!

“That and my period must be due because I never cry,” followed by a face-palm Emoji.

She then added: “Right I’m off to eat three white chocolate Magnums!”

Alongside the series of pictures, she added the words: “Feliz cumpleaños Mia! Your very first Birthday!!!!

“Thank you for choosing me to be your mum. You’re my everything. Making us so proud and keeping us laughing daily (even on little sleep).

“Me and papa love you. Enjoy your special day!”

Gemma also opened up on Loose Women about marriages plans to Gorka, who she started dating after the 2018 series of Strictly.

After she appeared to accidentally say she and Gorka had planned a wedding, she said: “No, do you know what, we’re not really fussed about getting married.

“We have said if we were ever to do it now we would wait until Mia’s old enough so she could be involved.”
