Tom Hanks has confirmed that he and his wife Rita have tested positive for coronavirus while in Australia.
The famous couple are currently in Australia filming the upcoming Baz Luhrman’s untitled Elvis Presley movie from Warner Brothers when he started experiencing symptoms of the COVID-19 virus.
Hanks, a two-time Oscar Award winner is portraying the role of Elvis’ longtime manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
In a statement released on his social media channels, the 63-year-old said: “Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia,
Hanks said he felt like he had a cold, while Rita, also 63, suffered from chills.
“We felt a bit tired like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the coronavirus and were found to be positive.”
“Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requirements.
He went on to add: “Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?

Closing his statement, Hanks said: “Take care of yourselves!”
The actor who stars in hit films such as Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan and The Post is the most known Hollywood figure to have been diagnosed with the virus that is currently sweeping the globe.

A statement from Warner Brothers Studios read: “We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis feature film, which is currently in pre-production in The Gold Coast, Australia, has tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus).
“We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual.
“The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world.

“The individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is currently receiving treatment.”
Minutes before making his announcement, US President Donald Trump addressed the world live from The Oval Office declaring that all travel from European countries, excluding the UK had been suspended for 30 days.
