BBC Breakfast fans rejoice as Owain Wyn Evans returns after storming off-set

BBC Breakfast fans were overjoyed to see the valiant return of drumming weatherman Owain Wyn Evans on Friday, after he notoriously stormed off-set during his last appearance.

Regular presenters Carol Kirkwood and Matt Taylor were nowhere to be seen during the episode, as Owain stepped in to fill their shoes alongside Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt.

Naga couldn’t help but quiz Owain on whether we can expect a white Christmas – though she seemed daunted by the prospect of doing so.

She explained: “I was allowed to ask Matt [Taylor] about a white Christmas. Usually you guys don’t let us ask.”

Owain responded: “No – ‘cause a white Christmas is a funny one, isn’t it? Because all you need, meteorologically…”

Naga finished his sentence: “Like two drops of snow.”

“And then it’s a white Christmas,” Owain responded, as Naga pressed: “Is that your way of not telling me if it’s going to be a white Christmas?”

Owain deployed the air quotes to tell her: “Well, with that in mind, we could get a ‘white Christmas’. I’m going to leave you both with that!”

Fans at home were overjoyed to see Owain back on the programme, with one writing on Twitter: “Dapper as always Owain and thank you for explaining why we’re seeing such beautifully coloured skies presently!”

“Good morning Owain! Lovely to see you on Breakfast this morning. You brighten up my day!” another chimed in.

As someone else tweeted: “You always cheer me up, Owain! A very special soul.”

And a fourth echoed: “You look wonderful this morning, brightened up a dull Friday. Happy weekend Owain!”

It comes after Owain famously stormed off set last month after an appearance to chat about his 24-hour drumathon for Children In Need.

All that drumming had understandably tired him out, and as sports broadcaster Mike Bushell brought out an extra pair of drum sticks to taunt him with, the set soon descended into chaos.

Mike told him: “I’ve got a surprise for Owain. He’s doing it again, live from the show tonight!”

Owain quickly picked himself up from the couch and fled the set, explaining: “No, I’ve seen the drum sticks everyone, bye!”

Mike called: “No, come back! We need you!”

Thankfully, Owain was giggling as he returned to the sofa to chat more about his achievement.

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am every day on BBC One.
