Ed Sheeran admitted there had been a time when he thought he could have been gay due to his love of Britney Spears and musicals.
The 30-year-old singer had been so in touch with his feminine side that he thought at one point while growing up he might not be heterosexual.
The singer admitted he had become confused about his sexuality because of his lack of love for masculine hobbies and because of his intrigue in pop music.
Speaking on Dutch podcast Man, Man, Man, he said: “I have a definite feminine side, to the point that when I was a kid I thought I was gay for a bit.
“I definitely have a big feminine side. I love musical theatre, I love pop music, I love Britney Spears.
“My masculine side probably stops at drinking beer and watching football.”
He remarked: “I am not a hugely masculine person anyway. I am not a car guy. I like a nice car, but I’m not a car guy.”
The father-of-one, who welcomed his baby daughter a year ago with wife Cherry Seaborn, 29, has explained that his perspective about femininity has now changed later on in life.
Ed added: “My wife is super pro women, femininity and as soon as we started dating my life shifted to that.
“She plays in a female hockey team, we hang out with them all the time. It’s very much women empowerment, she works a very high level job at the top of her field.
“Before Lyra was born it was kind of that but now Lyra’s born it’s even more that.”
The Thinking Out Loud chart topper first met Cherry when they were just children with the pair attending the same school – Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk.
They began dating in 2015 and were later married in an intimate ceremony in January 2019, welcoming their first child together in August 2020.
Sharing the happy news, Ed took to Instagram to announce the arrival of his beautiful baby girl.
With a picture of tiny socks and baby blanket, he captioned: “Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter.”
