Emmerdale star Fiona Wade is best known for originating the role of Priya Sharma in the Dales – but she actually has a secret soap history not many people know about.
The 42-year-old actress has even appeared in ITV favourite Coronation Street before her time in Emmerdale.
This week’s upcoming soap crossover will prove easy as pie for Fiona, as she has already acted in a whopping five of the soaps included.
Emmerdale will join with Coronation Street, EastEnders, Hollyoaks, Casualty, Holby City and Doctors in order to provide commentary on climate change the same week as the COP26 conference in Glasgow.
World leaders will meet to discuss the impending climate crisis and hopefully discover some solutions.
And to reflect the historic moment on the small screen, characters will take part in a groundbreaking new plot which will see Emmerdale’s Liam Cavanagh go viral with his new allotment.
This certainly won’t be much of a challenge for Fiona, as she is well familiar with the other soaps included.
She first caught fans’ attention when she starred as Sandeesh in Coronation Street back in 2011.
Sandeesh was a client of Carla Connor’s at Underworld, who she and Frank Foster were determined to win over for a contract.
Sandeesh got a tour of the factory before Carla received the tragic news that her mother had passed away, which proved a killer for the deal with Sandeesh.
As she attempted to beat Carla and Frank down on price, Carla was admittedly in no mood for games and told her to shove her order – forcing her to apologise to Frank for blowing the contract.
Fiona starred in two episodes of Corrie total, but it seemed to be enough to make her mark as, shortly after, she was awarded the role of Priya in Emmerdale.
Among her other soap roles were her 2009 appearance as Nita in Casualty and a role as Julianna McKenzie in Holby City back in 2007.
She has also appeared three times in BBC medical drama Doctors – first as Decca Taylor in two episodes back in 2004, and then as Shahnaz Malick in 2009.
Fiona recently opened up about the future of her Emmerdale character Priya, who she has played since 2011.
Speaking to Daily Star and other publications, actress Fiona explained that Priya’s world will never be the same.
“Priya has pushed everyone away. She’s definitely isolated, and she’s in shock – she’s just feeling like her world is over,” she admitted.
And the element of lacking control is what really leads to Priya’s declining mental health.
“She’s really out of control with everything,” Fiona explained. “It’s almost as if one day everything was going great, and the next her whole world has changed and I think that’s where she’s at.”
Fiona elaborated: “It’s like the stages of grief. Priya is pushing everyone away at the moment and she’s angry at the situation – she doesn’t really understand why this is happening to her.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7pm on ITV.
