Katy Perry and Russell Brand were involved in a whirlwind romance 10 years ago.
The American singer, who has had hits with Firework, Teenage Dream and Never Really Over, was involved with British comedian and actor Russell Brand in a fleeting romance, marriage and divorce, which was finalised on this day (July 16) in 2012.
It all played out in the public eye after they met on the set of a Hollywood movie, and their sad split was all filmed for Katy’s concert movie.
Both of them have now moved on, with Katy being in a relationship and sharing a child with Orlando Bloom.
Meanwhile, Russell has been married to Kirsty Gallacher’s sister Laura since 2017.
The whirlwind romance begins

The famous pair met in the summer of 2009 when they appeared in the Hollywood film Get Him to the Greek.
The couple began dating after they met again a few weeks later at the 2009 MTV VMAs, they got engaged three months later on December 31, 2009, while holidaying in India.
Getting wed in October 2010, a year after they first met, they married in a traditional Hindu ceremony near a tiger sanctuary in India, where the couple got engaged.
An insider told Daily Mail Online that Katy had “never connected with anybody” the way she connected with Russell.
“He makes her laugh like nobody else in the world,” they said.
Then, 14 months after the couple were wed, Russell, who is 10 years her senior, announced in December 2011 that he and Katy were filing for divorce.
Not like the movies
Katy reportedly said that conflicting career schedules and his desire to have children before she was ready led to the end of their marriage.
And in June 2013, she told Vogue that he did not like the idea of her “being the boss” of things.
Back when the marriage broke down, Katy revealed her husband told her he was planning to divorce her via a text message.
One text message was all it took for the couple to split.
The couple never spoke again, leaving Katy distraught over the breakdown of the marriage, and she has previously said that she even contemplated suicide.

In 2017 Russell spoke to W Channel, saying: “Katy was obviously very, very occupied and busy. I was occupied and busy but not to the same degree.”
In February of this year, Russell, 46, was quizzed by fans about his ex-wife during a live Q&A on TikTok.
Fans asked him about Katy, but instead of shying away from opening up about their marriage, he openly chatted about the topic.
During the live he candidly said: “I really tried in that relationship. I have nothing but positive feelings for her.”

Katy Perry, 36, is now in a happy relationship with Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom, 43.
The happy couple, who are engaged, welcomed their first child together, a baby girl named Daisy Dove.
Katy and Orlando got together in early 2016, they have remained together ever since and got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019.
In a 2019 appearance on the popular US talk show, Jimmy Kimmel, the singer, who released the track Never Worn White as an ode to marrying her lover, revealed details of how she and Orlando met.

The pair “bonded over an In-N-Out burger” at the Golden Globes around three years prior, she explained to the host.
She said on the show: “Actually, In-N-Out plays a big role in my life.
“He stole one off of my table.
“I was sitting with Denzel Washington and he took it and I was like, ‘Wait, who – oh, you’re so hot! Fine, take it.’
“And then I saw him at a party, and I was like, ‘How are those onions resting on your molars?'”

Both Katy and Russell have gone on to have children with their new partners.
Russell has two children with his wife, Laura Gallacher, a Scottish blogger and former restaurateur who he as been with since 2015, however they had dated on and off since 2007.
Laura is the sister of television presenter Kirsty Gallacher.
Russell and Laura welcomed their first child, a daughter named Mabel in November 2016.
The pair married on August 26, 2017, and 11 months later they welcomed their second daughter Peggy.
