Jeremy Clarkson has admitted he’s worried for his Clarkson’s Farm co-star Kaleb Cooper’s future in farming, after finding fame on Amazon Prime.
The 61-year-old has been letting fans in on the trials and tribulations of running his Diddly Squat Farm on his show, which was recently renewed for a second season.
But he is concerned that rules and regulations from the Government and rich city traders could drive people like Kaleb out of the industry.
The 21-year-old has proved popular with viewers, and he’s now hounded for selfies even when out doing his grocery shop.
However Jeremy is fearful for the lad’s future, saying: “Kaleb’s fantastic, but it worries me how he’ll ever be able to afford his own farm.”
He added to the Sun: “He’s up against hedge fund managers now who don’t necessarily want to farm it.”
Jeremy bought the 1,000-acre area of land near Chadlington in Oxfordshire in 2008, but he only started farming it two years ago when the original farmer retired.
Clarkson’s Farm launched in June 2021 on Amazon Prime, and went down a storm with fans, being renewed for another season just a month later.
The farm on his land, which was called Curdle Hill Farm, was mainly used to grow barley, rapeseed and what by a local villager, Howard.
Jeremy renamed it Diddly Squat Farm because it wasn’t very productive.
The first season featured eight episodes, each looking at different aspects of farming, such as tractors, sheep and setting up a farm shop.
As well as Jeremy and Kaleb, the show features a cast of other farming experts.
Gerald Cooper – no relation to Kaleb – is a master of dry stone walls, which make up the 40 miles of boundaries of the farm.
The 72-year-old has a thick West Country accent which often causes a bit of confusion with Jeremy.
Sheep farmer Kevin Harrison comes in to advise Jeremy on how to farm his flock of sheep, while the Grand Tour host later brings in shepherdess Ellen Helliwell to tend to the flock.
Jeremy even got his girlfriend Lisa Hogan to help, though her duties are kept to running the farm shop.
There’s also Charlie “Cheerful Charlie” Ireland, who advises Jezza on farm management.
He’s an expert on all things agriculture and government regulations, as well as financial consequences of things.
Charlie often deals Jeremy with bad news, but does it in such a positive way that he has been likened to a “parish vicar”.
Clarkson’s Farm is available to stream on Amazon Prime
